SimCity's old newspapers are a great example - after a while, you've seen them all, and then they're just old.
On the other hand, don't take that as anti-humour. I'm all for more silliness... but I like how it's out of the way (I hardly ever click on building descriptions).
I wouldn't mind seeing some add-on industry chains; but I think, for the most part, it's better to keep humour out of the core, for the most part.
But more importantly: As with everything else: Anyone who creates content can create it however they like. If people like it, they'll use it. And I'm all for it! :-)
A limitation of automated translation. Should have those updated in a sec...
...and, done.
Also, It might be helpful to put up a topic in Russian with some of the basic forum rules. Basically, this starts a community from scratch, so the long history of the English boards doesn't automatically translate. :-/
The language rules here:
On this board, Russian is mandatory. Other languages are allowed, as long as Russian is also given, and given first.
Example:
[RU] lkdsflksldkflsd
[EN] sdfosjdfjsadf
(can replace "RU" with the appropriate Cyrillic)
On English boards, must be the other way around:
[EN] asjdflsajkdf
[RU] slkdjflksdjf
And, of course, on any language board - that board's language goes before any other language...
(And this temporary topic is an exception to the board's language rules, of course!)
[RU] Это будет только на английском языке темы на этом форуме, и будет здесь только во время правления установки. Пожалуйста прощения автоматический перевод этого пункта.
[EN] This will be the only English topic on this board, and will only be here during board setup.
Okay, this topic is for comments about the board setup.
Hello, I am certainly not new, but anyways.... I'd like to get some posts removed from the archive forum. Is that possible? Thanks in advance. The reason I am asking here is because I can't send personal messages for some reason...
It will probably take a compelling reason to dig into the database to do that...
If you'd like to discuss this with me, I can be reached at:
isaac (dot) eiland (dot) hall (at) gmail (dot) com
Of course, if you'd prefer to discuss with someone else, that's okay, too.
But do bear in mind that the archive forum has long been indexed by Google, and there are other sites that cache random information, so whatever it out there is long out there... But again, certainly willing to discuss it.
Depending on what you mean, "private" road signs may be exactly what you are looking for: They do not allow vehicles not owned by the player (the player that owns the sign) to p****.
(As with any sign, they apply only to the tile on which they are placed - this is the nature of road signs - and rail signs, for that matter)
To me, this sounds like there is a clear possibility of demand.
Also, I should have put in the poll: For anyone willing to be a moderator, please speak up in the thread so we know who you are. We will probably pick one or two (yes, so far, only one possibility, per the voting... but in case!), depending on the nature of the member(s) in question.
So we are trying to gauge the support for a Russian language board. Please vote above, and discuss below.
In regard to moderator duties: Moderators represent the Simutrans community. You must be patient and kind, and willing to help steer the development of the community. Bear in mind that the existing Simutrans forum members understand the culture of the board, but new members will not; it may be an uphill battle and difficult balance to steer the community to become a friendly, useful place. This is not an easy task.
In addition, it would be helpful for moderators and bilingual members to help with questions - not only answering what you can, but translating questions you can't, posting them on behalf of your Russian speakers; and taking answers back.
So let us know how you feel about having a Russian language board.
It's still the same thing, though. Road cannot be changed so that it is one-lane—one-way, for the same reason that it cannot be changed to both-lanes—one-way, or that dual-track cannot exist.
The only way you could possibly simulate one-way—one-lane roads would be to paint tracks that looked like roads, and trains that looked like trucks; however, it would still be track and operate like track (and track would still be two-way, so you'd have to carefully use signals to force it to work).
Denied for complexity reasons (these changes would take so long to implement -and would break so many parts of the program- that the reward would not be worth the time invested)
- Double tracks (on one tile)
- Highways
Changes to the base methodology for tracks/roads are not trivial - they go to the heart of the code.
To do what you're requesting requires rewriting of Simutrans, which is why it hasn't been done.
I think floor height is a good *general* rule, but definitely not definitive...
So, we already have "trains" and "trams"... In my opinion, either:
1. Create a third "light rail" for anything that doesn't fit the above two, or 2. Reconsider "trams" to include anything "light rail", i.e. anything not "trains"...
For example, in my case: The server exists. It has CPU, storage, bandwidth. Anything that doesn't get used goes to waste. It costs me $99/mo whether it's used or not.
So if you have a site sitting there taking up resources - it is *not* preventing someone else from using those resources - it is using resources that would go to waste.
Of course, if there's *wrong* and outdated information, maybe that's not good -- but I don't think that applies here at all in the slightest.
Now, it was mentioned that it would be easier to update files all in one place - that's a valid reason not to worry about using something on the server. No worries. But if the main concern is server resources - that's no worry.
Yes, unfortunately, since that post, I had to kill files.[ simutrans [dot] us (site down, do not visit) ] as it was a vector of attack used on the server.
