Simutrans-Extended development / Re: Error when starting Simutrans exp 8.2
Toshiba Satelite 100
1 gb Ram
1.73 ghz dual core

Vista Home Basic

I am pretty convinced the problem is the amount of Ram! It kinda kills other software as well when I open to many applications at the same time.

I also like huge maps 1800*1000 approx although nowadays I start with 64*64 and use the "enlarge map" function

No money to buy more Ram though.

Simutrans-Extended development / Re: Discussion: optimum starting settings
Interesting about the pax generation.

If I change the pax generation settings now will that influence my savefile? Or do I have to start from scratch?

(I was wondering why I had barely any pax going on my networks, while in other Simutrans versions and pax I have so much I cannot handle it usually).

Also can I change a setting so I get more intercity pax?

Simutrans-Extended development / Re: Error when starting Simutrans exp 8.2
No error message. I have a tendency to be to fast with my trackball. And it crashes on that. Same with "vanilla" 102.2.2 Britain and 128 normal. It is nothing above the normal amount of crashes I have experienced over the many years that I have had Simutrans so I never really take notice!

Simutrans-Extended development / Error when starting Simutrans exp 8.2
My system: Win Vista  Basic 1gb Ram and a cpu ;p

Anyway I downloaded all of the things required ****embled them in the same directory. But it refuses to start. I get:

Fatal error: loadsave_t::rdwr_str()
expected "<bool>", got "<i16>4"

Isn't there some easier thing around than http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=1894.0 ?

Just a:
1) download and install (link here)
2) download and install (link here)
3) download and install (link here)
etc

That is a lot easier than that block of text :)

Thx for the good work btw

Pak128.Britain-Ex closed bug reports / Small issues
I have been trying out Simutrans experimental and must say I am impressed and hooked.

I am playing 7.1 with the english pak.

I have 2 minor issues that I hope will be addressed somehow.

The houses available in the English pak are to small in size, so cities have a lot of urban sprawl instead of building higher in the center. I checked with the "government player" and turned timeline of and noticed that only a few bigger houses are available. I hope more will be available in the pak soon ...

The first Metro train introduced in 1907 which goes 90 km an hour is 45 tons. Unfortunately the rails with a maximum speed of 110 km/h only allows for 43 tons .... which means I have to build the much more expensive 145 km/h track ... I find this slightly silly ... I hope this will be tweaked in later versions.

Furthermore the game runs extremely stable! No crashes so far (knocking on wood) ..... great work! Keep it up!

Simutrans-Extended development / Infobox not showing details of vehicle
When I go into the garage (tram, road or train) and hover over a vehicle I do not get the left part of the info, all I get is:

LOCO_INFO_EXT

I downloaded the latest build 7.1 with the latest Simutrans version 102.2.1 and the pakset britain experimental. This only happens with "locos". It is very irritating as I cannot see how much it costs, how fast it goes etc :(. The other parts of the vehicles, like wagons and trailers show correctly.

I have Windows Vista.

With all other installed versions everything works correctly (128 last nightly build and 64 last stable build)

Pak128 / Re: Trams
yes because in the streets it will only show one of the catenaries ...
20
Pak128 / Re: Trams
Trolleybusses and trams can use the same catenaries. I have many tram-trains running usually. Tram tracks in the city and train tracks (110 km/h) outside. I usually choose a train model that looks like it could logically run on both systems. For this purpose I have downloaded many Japanese ones as they have a lot of equipment that looks good on tram tracks but is actually rail!

Simutrans Gaming Discussion / Re: How do you organize your network?
First you have to build a tunnel entrance ... you do not need to build the whole tunnel. Do this by laying rails (or road) on a slope. Then press CTRL+the tunnel symbol and you have an entrance. After that press shift+U and you are in the underground mode and can build your network.

I also believe it is now possible to build multilayered underground but I still need to figure out how this works ...

Simutrans Gaming Discussion / Re: How do you organize your network?
I usually end up doing the following.

I play 128 and I only transport pax. I love huge maps so I currently have a 2000 by 1000 px map (approx) with 300 towns, I never manage to connect all places though I have connected 40 towns at the moment,

I visualize regions. One central city (usually the biggest but not always if another place lines up better for interregional traffic, sometimes because of distance the region will only contain the one town) where I have a central station. This central station is usually located outside of the city in an area where there is enough room for future expansion. From this central station I connect the surrounding places and the central city. I start with buslines and upgrade them depending on p****enger demand to trams or raillines with 110 km/h speed (to simulate the urban railnetworks). In the cities/towns I have a bushub near the townhall which connects to either the regional central station, or if a city has grown big enough it will connect to a local central station which connects to regional level. Huge cities will get multiple bushubs interconnected by trams or metro, connected through to the central station and attractions.

On top of these local and regional networks there is an interregional service with fast trains (Though they start out as interregional buslines usually)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Road and rail elevated ways.
Stay tuned to the addons site - it's getting some love right now, in fact. :)

Thx Isaac it is great all of the love you guys gave to the game over the years! Have been playing it on and off for I can't remember how long! I was so enthousiastic in downloading Japanese Addons that I overdid slightly in some areas :) I downloaded tons of busses, but they didn't give them a starting year :( So in my depots in 1930 there are no tons of modern busses and have to get rid of them again ....

Isn't there a site somewhere dor German addons?

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Road and rail elevated ways.
Great stuff there .... I am having my yearly simutrans virus so I am playing again .... still the the closest to perfect game around.

The Japanese produce some great stuff. But stuff from others is so scattered around that it is difficult to get and the addons site doesn't really contain the good stuff :( Is there anyone with a comprehensive guide to url's with great downloadable simutrans content?
