- the second is related to age of that plane - regardless of game need some vehicles less retirement year in all categories, this plane should not be between them; if its intro year is 1958, then it is too early to it could let stay in game for ever after; but it is my opinion on this because I am not familiar with planes' construction and I don't know how much their life can be prolonged
Yes, and the 727 should also be in that category.
The 707 was produced between 1958–1979, and most civil operators has replaced them with the more efficient 727 or A300. It should be gone in the 80's it wont make any sense to fly so small 4 quad jet, when more efficient tri and twins are on the market.
And the 727 is replaced by the 757 and A320.
And the life of a plane can be prolonged by many years but it makes not much sense to do so at least not for p****engers but for freight and military use it doesn't matter that much as they fly just a few hours a day.
Ships like the GTS Finnjet are interesting, sure. Did you paint it already?
At the moment there are 7 p****enger ships with a capacity of 1000+, mostly fuel driven. Starting from 1911 or so. Then there are another 4 p****enger ships: 2 Sailing ships (60 & 212 P****), 1 steamer (310) and 1 Hovermarine (200). Imo the coolest ships you could paint are smaller fuel driven ferries (50 - 1000 p****engers). These ferries would really help to connect sights on small Islands, or production sites, or smaller connections.
Nope, I don't paint I come with ideas
Yeah smaller ships do come in handy, their might be some smaller ships as addons.
there used to be bigger docks in game (i remember them, just i can't recall either they were for pak 128 or 64). They were much longer (2, 3 or even 4 tiles). We should make new ones (they were from MHz, IIRC).
I combine 100's of small docks to form one large dock. Compared to them Emma looks small or like in real life
a great one... and it's an 80's plane, although lousy Alitalia still flies some today...
Well SAS also files 42 MD-80 planes still today, plus the 5 modern MD-90 flown by their Finnish subsidiary Blue1. Alitalia has 24 left. But both has been the worlds 3d (al) and 4th (sas) largest MD-80 operators behind AA and Delta.
And yes its a great plane, if you sit in the front like I have on both MD-80/90. I mostly travel (short haul) on the Embraer E-170/ATR 72 or A320 and some times with the MD-90 or Saab 2000 all nice planes.
Anyway, I don't think about that goods amounts are found in usual simutrans games but in custom scenarios...
Yes it might be so, I'm playing a huge map and all industries are customized to be in clusters and I'm now a monopoly when all AI went bust, so that can explain why I get the amounts of goods that I get and monopoly why the ships are struggling
I don't see them as oversize, the standard ships are so small that they would be used for shorter local trips or shallow waters. While these bigger ships would be used for super harbor to super harbor far a part.
And why waste money on those small ships when you can do much more with these big ones
Well, it's a functional approach. It's true is very low capacity for such a big ship, but it's difficult to handle big loads in simutrans because it would have to wait too much to get full, you know...
Not necessary, its all about how you setup your lines. The way I have my network setup I got about 4 mega container ports and the 40 Emma Mearsk struggles to keep up with demand.
I also thought of them as attractions/industries. It seems reasonable enough. maybe ST-Exp could go, instead, for a very expensive extension building having this effect and being a terminal for international transport.
in order to avoid cheating, there could be a "Global economy" object, with given values for demand/offer for each good type (but changing in time). the demand/offer of such international terminals would be a share ot the global values. e.g. given 100 the global offer, if i build 4 terminals i'll get a value of 25 for each of them. this way, the player would have an incentive not to build too many of them and to localise them strategically on the map.
I like the idea of international airports and ports, but implemented that way^.
Ah, thank you very much. So Trains can run on tram line using tram electrification, or do they need old/highspeed/standard catenary? Also, can trams use old/standard catenary on train lines? What about trolleybuses?
Trains and Trams can use the same infrastructure.
Trolleybuses no they have own but the electrification might work for both (Never tested that, I use diesel power)
Have you tried to start a new game (use a small map to test) without cronology and look into the depot? That's the fastest way to check vehicle pak issues...
Yes I have, I redownloaded the pak128 and now it works.
But I found a few even bigger and faster diesel trains so I'm set to start upgrading my aging fleet of 356 sets, about 700 freight.
For some reason, whenever I do these maps , I manage to horribly FAIL. I'm guessing that it's because I don't use the Public service to build factories , which takes too long I find
I usually build up a huge company and let it fail, and build it up again. I feel its more fun that way.
That is a really big map, I'm upgrading the rails right now to 150/280 and so far I have just done 10-20% of them.
Also, as far as planes landing on roads -- I'm not sure that's a regular occurrence nearly anywhere... Certainly, the vast majority of countries do NOT allow such a thing on a regular, routine basis. Airports exist all around the world.
If you want to land aircraft in a 'remote' part of your map, build a small airport...
Please remember that the player, in Simutrans, is in charge of a company that tries to make a profit transporting goods that factories in the Simutrans world already contracted with each other for; as well as p****engers/mail in/between cities and factories and tourist places...
Well a few times a year would be regular/routine basis
Yes I built a hub there now I fly six lines trough it, and it still has lots of potential left. I think its my biggest right now with 32 slots and 6 runways . But a simple road would have been cheaper
Yes I'm very good at the profit part, the company now makes 20 MCR in profit and total ****ets are over 320 MCR. I would probably be in better need of better convoy management, to faster upgrade my fleet of planes and trains and cars.
And this doesn't fit in with a transportation simulator.
Tactical transport planes would fit, and the pak128 already has the C-130 for that. I would see a use with useing it in remote areas where I just have some raw materials and limited road network.
I guess you mean 757, 767 and 787. The 777 was painted with ANA livery, and it's one of my favourite!!
Btw, those you comment were the next in my todo list, but I'm starting another project so I'll only paint more planes as an unusual work, as the plane pak has now the "stand by" status. I'm sorry, but other things are more important now (like ships and balancing). But I promise I will bring some surprises later on
Oh there is a 777, its also one of my favorite Boeing (777, 757).
The 787-8 could be the optimal and A350-900 or 1000.
Yes, I know it's wrong, and it may apply to all the planes in the pak.
That is because I decided to use the family intro date for those planes which only are represented by one model (which are most). I know it's not a very real thing, but I thought that was the best way for introduction dates to fit best in Simutrans.
Anyway, suggestions are accepted, as always
Ah, well I saw that the 747 family had own intro-dates. And the original 737 has close to nothing in common with the cl****ic/NG models other then the name. For most models it works well the current system as the improvements is often limited to size and engines and fuel and just a few years of etch other. But its not a problem I use the A320 most of the time so I barely notice
DC-9/MD-80/90 family would be nice to have the sold really well and is still a workhorse in many fleets. And the 3 missing Boeing's 757, 767, 777, and some RJ like E-170/190.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it..I'll try to start working one some of the helicopters that are still on the list, to finish that part definetly, so the next ones will be Sikorsky-CH-54 skycrane and Mil Mi-6 hook, as always with several color schemes (if possible, of course)
Ain't Mil Mi-26 better to make, it can lift 8 tons more (Mi-6) and its about 20 years newer and the worlds largest helicopter (Mil Mi-12 is larger but just a demo).
In Simutrans is already possible, at least with pak64 but it's not worth, the cost are very high..
I know, the C-5 with the pak64 money ain't a problem.
But I was talking about real world, in the 60's some planes was flying pax and cars between France and UK, but its still possible to load a car as cargo in a airliner.
I like the current dept system, I usually have good CF's ang great margins over 3, so the first 20 so years I have 100m on loan and the next 20 100m on hand. I spend so much on growth in the beginning and the equity I start out with dose not last long.
I say add a exchange where the player can get new capital, or lend capital to other players in the game or the option to merge or buy ****ets of an other player (Lines/grid, planes, ships, trains 2nd hand).
THe income per tile is already fixed. It can be increase a little, if the good in question has a speedbonus. But other than that, the cost is fixed.
(Btw, when Siemens first set up their 1MB chips, they imported water by airplane from taiwan, since the german water was too prue for a processing step. So sometimes there is bulk stuff transported by airplane, if urgent enough. Also during berlin skilift operation, all coal (and even an entire power station) was transported via airplane!)
Also cars has been transported by air and its possible even today
PS:Transporting mail only gives profit if combined with p****engers or goods and between bigger cities (min.4000 people)
I noticed that and that's why I opt out. I'm experimenting with it now, by letting a dummy player do all the city lines and I'm concentrating on getting the mails out to other city's from my hubs, but the margins are still to low for me.
My Freight network are hub based, resources might be transported directly if they are close to the factory, but otherwise factory - hub - final consumer. Air and Shipping done in the same way.
P****enger: Large bus network, up to 25 stops per line and 45 buses per line, and smaller lines to important places and hubs, air, I have a few large hubs with wide-body planes and smaller airports with short-haul plans.
I like it, the public player should be more like that: It could finance itself by taxes and build stuff that is not in the interest of the other players.
I'm thinking about SIB (Simutrans Investment bank) human players could ask for aid in building infrastructure (rails, airports, ports).
"Taxes and fees" and a budget to cover mc and some surplus for building new stuff and subsidies to players who build out networks to less dense areas.
The Simutrans-Experimental seems interesting I'm going to try it some day.
I'm sorry the pak is now at "stand by" mode. But I can add it to the to-do list, where there are some more boeings and douglas to complete the current pak plus some smaller modern planes (the CRJ900 can be one of them). From now I'll spend my time on pak balancing and the going-open-source process, so I'm afraid the planes will be stopped for a while.
How about MD-80/90 to the to-do list also? the MD-90 could fall in to modern small planes. And who about the market leader Embraer E-Jet? will it be among the smaller modern planes Also replacement for the 727 would be nice like 727 -> 757 to A321
Of course you're free to buy the one you like most Btw, I'm presenting the remake for the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, a tri-engined jet built from 1971 to 1988. There were built 386 units of the p****enger version. This time I've used United Airlines livery, who were the first to order it together with American Airlines (whose already have a plane in my pak, so I decided for UA). Hope you like it!
Well I use the IL-76 and A380F and AI use the C-130.
