Resell cost: How more vehicles of a certain type there are, how lower the price you get when reselling, since the 2nd hand market would be pretty saturated.
interesting feature, if you decide to implement this then you should also try and make it so that vehicles will cost more to run and maintain whilst there getting older. Since old vehicles usually require more maintenance since there parts are starting to fail.
I think this could be interesting, but it will take away the divergence of a vehicle park(whilst most people already relay on a small array of vehicles.) Offcourse you could also make it so that people will get offers for a certain vehicle so that they can get it cheaper over a certain month. Im not quite sure how to implement this, and make it so that it wont pick vehicles that are already obsolete.
Just a thought, i think this is a pretty good idea!
Still working on it, although im havent had a lot of time this week, Im the lead environment artist on my team, we need to make a animation so im working fulltime on that now. I also spent a few days at the airfield without my laptop.
I think there are a lot of good idea's in this thread and its definitely worth experimenting. Although i wonder how hard it will make this game for the beginner. Offcourse this is solvable through keeping a mode that is close to what we have now.
I dont think towns should shrink physic wise, population wise it could happend, but the houses dont disappear, they should become out of use, kinda like how in sim city buildings start to decay when a certain limit is reached.
Made quite some progress with the current design today. As you can see i started by numbering everything so its easy to identify a certain part. Most of the straight parts are down now.
current speed limit is 200 KM/H. Although most p****enger carriages and freight trains dont support this speed yet.
The 96.comic pak still needs a good powerline for the train track, so i decided to keep progress of it in this topic, if anyone has suggestions or idea's then i'd love to hear about it!
The pole is still a bit thick, and the second pole in the background can be ignored.
Should this line be supported by 2 beams or by a single beam? The tramtrack that is used as a base uses 2.
I got it to compile and work in PAK 96. I think the locomotive is still a bit too big, but il try and remove the wheels first so that it will sit a notch lower. That should atleast improve the visuals a bit.
EDIT: Ok, this definitely improved the view, along with modifiying the vehicles length. Although it might look bulky next to standard vehicles.
aah yes the famous old mat 54 trains(material 1954). Shame they dont drive anymore, and there replacements, the mat 64 are also about to disappear in 5 years. Fortunately there is a museum that always gets the old locomotives and keeps them in driving condition if possible. I went there this summer and i must say its fantastic to see all of the oldtimers still in there fullest glory.
Indeed, the sharp-contrast blue/yellow are perfect for this pak ^_^
Yeah i get your point, what i did in this test was replace only one out of the 8 images with the render. The rest of them were still the old ones. I even modified it a bit more, il upload the vehicle.pak in a bit.
Yup, try running the command prompt(start > run ) then type in cmd. This starts the command prompt. I then change the directory to the makeobj directory. In my case i would type in :
cd d:\simutrans development\MAK DE 1002\compile\
Then i type d:
And it gives me the directory i just typed in above. In there i keep the graphics and .dat files. All i need to do then is type in:
makeobj pak128
and it creates the pak files according to the .dat files. If you only type in makeobj it gives you a list with options to use.
I dont know what software you are using, but if you use a bicubical sharper or nearest neighbour then it increases the sharpness of the image and definitely doesnt lose as much detail if you were to render it at its original resolution.
Scaling something up indeed does reduce detail and quality.
