Pak128 / Re: Metro - as tram or train?
I think that it is better to have high capacity train station for metros. The current capacity of train stations are not enough for busy metro operations.
Trams should be similar to light rail (also the price). The only difference is that light rail do not share the road with cars while trams shares. Simutrans only need to design the track that will be affected by surrounding traffic for tram is enough (the present design is for light rail).

Pak128 / Price and Speedbonus
I feel that PAK128 price and speedbonus is not balance in some aspect.
I try to run a post transportation company in simutrans. I planned to make it like a express courier company like DHL, FedEx or TNT. However, the amount of post and the revenue cannot support such company running separately. It seems the designer of PAK128 thinks post must be worked together with p****enger in order to have enough income.
Really I against this design. It is because no one will send himself to another place by putting stamp at his back and go to post office wait for their transportation. I suggest the revenue and the amount of post should make post service to work separately.
On the other hand, I found that the speed expectation for railway is too high in the later game. The basic speed of railways is 210km/h in 2040. However, it is very hard to meet the speed for freight trains after 2000. Transporting goods by railway in later game means losing. I think it is not the original design for freight.
I understand the high basic speed is for high speed trains when the technology advance. However, this will kill the freight trains and metros (low speed underground city rail).
I suggest to decrease the speed expectation for railways in later game in order to have freight trains and other low speed connection trains. To balance high speed trains, I suggest to increase their running cost to prevent high profit generated from this.

I lost that pak during upgrading my computer. I think it is good idea to upload it to the forum and let the player decide if it is good to use it in their world.

Pak128 / Re: Container Ship
A little bit out of topic, if the factory and consumer storage is propotional to its production rate/demand, the problem will be solved. But really it is hard to make it in the code of simutrans. Is that right?
The suggetion of large ship is due to the management problem of a dozen of small ships. In my save game, maybe there are more than 50 ships waiting at the port. They will gone when the production/consumption is normal. But it is a problem when you check the content of a ship. Because it will open 50 windows since they are parked together. Maybe it is good sport for my finger to close all those windows. But it is really not good to enjoy the game.
I hope simutrans will encourage people to use ships since the transportation cost per unit should be the lowest for ocean transportation.

Pak128 / Re: Container Ship
The capacity of trucks or freight trains are similar to real situation. However, ship capacity is really far below reality. I am not sure if it is planned to do so.
I live besides the busiest port in the World. Each day there are tens of container ship coming for loading and unloading. But if you compare with container car, the number of ships is much smaller than it. So, I suggest that we can have large container ships. The only thing is to increase the port space and factory production rate. I think this will make simutrans to be similar to real situation completely but not partially.

Extension Requests / Custom Design Vehicle
The idea of this extension is as follow:
Players in simutrans can adjust the value of power and capacity of a standard vehicle. For example, a standard container ship cost the player 20,000 having power of 1000KW and 200 crates capacity. The player can request for same design of this ship but have double power and capacity. This would cost doubled cost for the player since this would have same setting as two ships. This designed vehicle can only be used in that particular savegame only and the player may need to pay for model development fee once it is desgined(suggest to be 50%-100% of the designed vehicle cost). This would better suit for different map needs.
The cost of the designed vehicles is depends on the power and the capacity changed. If both of them is doubled, the cost will be doubled. If only either one is doubled, the cost should be 50% more than the standard cost. The model development fee should be charge once for each design. If the design is confirmed, the second vehicle using this design will not need to pay for the development fee. This kind of custom design vehicle should be savegame and player dependent.
I hope this extension will be accepted

Pak128 / Re: Container Ship
So, can I have any tools to edit the capacity of standard ships for my own game? I need to solve the transportation problem or I need to start a new game which is a great loss of my effort.

Thanks for your reply.
I have downloaded Emma Mearsk. But it is only 1400 crates. This make me confused why such large ship only transport so little goods.

Pak128 / Container Ship
I think the container ships in PAK 128 is too small to handle large amount of freights.
From the information provided by wikipedia, a container ship can ship up to 15,000 TEU (equal to 7,500X40' container). Since 40'GP has more strict weight limitation, I take it to calculate. 40'GP weight limit usually is 26.5ton. Sometimes it is 20 ton depends on the regulation from the port. According to PAK 128 goods list, the heaviest crate goods is gl****. 1 crate of gl**** is 1,300 kg. That is one 40' container can place 15.4 crate of gl**** according to the weight limit 20 ton per 40'GP. Let's round it to 15 crate for better calculation. Then 1 container ship can ship at least 15X7,500=112,500 crates of gl****.
In simutrans world, 1 crate of gl**** should use same space as 1 crate of books/electronics etc since the weight of each kind of goods is different. Therefore, the container ship capacity in PAK 128 should rise from 500 crate (Europa) to 112,500 crates (new suggested container ship).
But if the ship have such large capacity, it is hard to have factories to fill up such large number of crates. If we really need to increase the capacity of container ships, we need to consider to increase the production rate and storage of current PAK128 factories.
Please feel free to discuss my suggestions. Thanks!

Pak128.Britain / Re: Long term: industry chain suggestions
I suggest building gl**** should be separated with gl****ware.
In real world, consumer gl****wares and building gl**** are produced by different factory although they are gl****. Factories produce consumer gl****wares usually produce the gl**** for electronic industries.
Factories producing building gl**** can also supply auto gl**** (manufacturing process of these two products are similar). I suggest to have separate factory for gl****ware and building gl****.
Building gl**** factory will supply gl**** to car ****embly plant. This will be better.
Please feel free to discuss my suggestions.

Extension Requests / Max Freight Cost
My idea is that each type of goods the producer/consumer can only afford a certain percentage of freight cost in additional to the goods cost. So there will not be someone think to transport some low goods value goods (such as coal/ iron ore) using some expensive ways.
In order to make this idea easier to be incooperated in simutrans, I suggest to have the max freight cost per tile. For example, we may have the maximum freight cost of 1 crate of books at 1.00/tile no matter which type of transportation you choose. When the player use some expensive way to transport books, the max freight cost collected from consumer/producer is only 1.00/tile. That means any cost above 1.00/tile will be in account of the transporter. I think this can prevent the consumer/producer to pay unfair freight cost. The transporter only transport the goods in expensive but express way only in emergency (such as lack of space in the station). This will make simutrans closer to real routine transportation.
Please feel free to discuss if my idea can be accepted

Vegetable, fruits and flour should be cl****ified as farm products. Everyday we can see many trucks transporting vegetables. Vegatables are stored in brackets or foam packing during transportation. It is totally different from pieces goods.
Fruits should be farm products or cooled goods. Tuck transporting Fruits are open sides if the fruit can be stored in room temperature for some time. Cooling trucks maybe used for some kind of fruit that cannot be stored in room temperature for a long time.
Flour packed in bags. The packing of flour like the packing of rice. This kind of packing should be consider as farm product rather than pieces goods.
Newpaper is transported in small vans (at least true for the city I live in). These van will transport other pieces goods in daytime. Newspaper transport only at night time/early morning. Therefore, Newspaper is pieces goods.
China is packed in crates/cartons. It should be pieces goods rather than farm products
