3D Modeling / Object Size Converter + Camera Positioning for 3D-Software
Hi,

here is a Googlized Version of my Openoffice-Spreadsheet.

It is meant for converting Object Size Values between Pixels in Images and Points in 3D-Models.
There is also a small help for Positioning the Camera.
All these Calculations were meant for Blender, but they should work for any other 3D-Software as well.

Well, I hope someone will find it usefull. I can only hope that it's free of errors, there is no Guarantee.

Tutorials / Re: [Guide] - Electricity.
Oh boy, I've never used Electricity in simutrans so far.
Got a Question though: do electrified Shops consume/sell more Goods? Or do they just pay for it without any side-effect?
Would be nice if they did, because I usually end up producing more goods than my Shops can consume. :)

Indeed much better now.
But why did you fill the whole Tile out? Your Building's Entrance might end up pressed into a Wall of another Building >.<
Since it's a Market-Building, you can use more than 1 Tile for it and put some Pavement around or at least in front of the Building. Maybe even add a Parking Lot. But of course it's all up to you.
I miss a Sign above the Entrance a little ;)

Care to explain why?
As I see it, Blender is one of those rare Programs, that requires some reading before start.
It doesnt follow the common concept "left click - select / right click - context menu", but thats about it.

If you still want to try Blender and got Questions about it, please start a new Thread and we'll continue there.

Short Version: take a closer look at the Pictures of the real Buildings of the same Type(Google Image Search?), might help alot. Helped me at least.

Long Version: :D
 -No Shadows (alright, there is not much place for it);
 -What is it on the roof? Looks odd in that Position/Angle(make parallel to the Front wall?) and kinda small;
 -The Roof is pretty empty, maybe add some Lights/signs/Air Conditioner/Solar Cells?
 -Doors and the Window have the same color, are both made out of the same Material? If they are supposed to be translucent, try to imitate the Floor/Furniture inside that could be seen through them.
 -with solid Colors only the Building looks unnatural, try mixing some 'Noise-Pixels' into it. Maybe just a slight Color-Variation or Dirt.

Winter-Image:
 -might add some snow on top of that Sign(?) on the roof and on the Edges of the Building itself;
-maybe add more snow behind the Building? Your Choice.

Sure Thing, vilvoh. Do you want a lower/higher Resolution maybe? like pak512? :)

I'd even upload the .blend-File, but it would probably be missing some of the Texture-Images.
Well, actually, not sure about that. Maybe I just dont want to show the World, what a mess my Project really is :D

Hi, I'm sorry for the pretty big Delay.
Is there still any use for my Building in its last known state?
Maybe with another Name and some small Changes?
I dont feel like doing it all other again, but would hate to drop the Project competely.
Spent a few weeks on it after all...

In any Case, here are all 4 Views in 1 Image.
There might be some minor Errors in that File, as I didnt start Blender since my last Post in this Thread.

Well, to be honest, there was pretty much no progress since my last post.
In the last few Days StarTrek Online has consumed my free time completely.

I still want to get this done, so, what is missing?
Snow-Version? Or does pavement or anything else definately needs some improvement?
Oh yeah, the Trucks, almost forgot. I'll make some Improvements there, got a few Days off.

Edit: trying to make some snow, Trucks been improved a little too.

Simutrans Gaming Discussion / Dithering Shadows in Blender/Gimp
Hi,
it seems that i'll need to dither the Shadows outside the ground-plates in my current Blender project.
I guess that most people do it in some sort of Imaging programm. I was planning to do it in gimp also.
The questions are:

1. how exactly do you do it? Just painting single transparent pixels into rendered image or with some sort of alpha-mask or something like that? I'm really no expert, usually just cutting/pasting and doing other pretty basic stuff.

2. Is there a way to dither those Shadows directly in Blender? It seems to be doable with Composite Nodes(shadow p****?), but I couldn't get it to work yet.

Was planning to ask about Implementation of Alpha-Channel into Makeobj/Simutrans, but already found an old thread about it.

@VS I've been trying to scale that texture down(through Settings in Blender) even prior to first Preview and the result was horrible.
Took a closer look at it and found the reason in wrong cut and ratio of the Imagefile used.
Well, I'm still tampering with the Basics of Modelling and Texturing, wasnt expecting any wonders there  ;D
I'll post again later.

Oh boy, that Word again. Please tell me, what exactly do you all mean by 'Pavement'? From what my Dictionary tells me(never heard/read it before), it's the walkway aside the Road.
I guess it means just any not empty place on the ground not occupied with roads/water etc.

Minor Update: added Entrance and let some lazy Simuworkers repaint the Walls.
The new 'Color'(it's still Concrete-Texture, just tweaked a little) made my Gl****-Panels darker again, d'oh..

@vilvoh I know, it's already blurry for my taste. Those tiny Cars seem to look better with OSA on though.

I never counted Pixels in my rendered Images before, but Gimp says my 3 Floors(Gl****+Frames) are together 41-42px high and that makes about 14px per Floor. I'm not saying i wont rescale it, gotta see the Building ingame and compare to others first. *looking for tilecutterorhowisitcalledagain*

Guess you're right, I didnt realise that prior to posting. Building itself (and thats a major part of the Image) is textured with real Concrete-Texture and it's, well, grey.. Maybe to realistic in this case. Additionally, Shadows were to dark, so I added extra Light from the East.

I dont know what material/color Roof should have?
Switched Pavement back to my stone Plates. The other Texture was of wrong size and was anything but good, thats right.
Entrance still cant be identified, gotta put something in front of it.

Well, I did read in some sort of Blender-for-Simutrans Tutorial, that Oversampling makes the image and especially the edges to blurry and should be turned off. It has been off ever since. Oversampling in Blender can only be put on or off for everything. But after some searching i found a way to keep OSA on without getting the Tile-Edges blurry: Link.

So, I've learned and used a few more Things about Texturing. CityCars look better now, Shoppingcart Housing still dont.
Almost done now, here is 3rd Preview(444kB): http://gouv.de/ext/simutrans/hm_1.png.
So, I think there is still some tweaking to do on the Trucks, anything else?
Oh and that white rectangular Tile above the Building will be gone in the final picture.

Umm, is it painted or rendered? Looks more like rendered to me, in that case I'd suggest to get a nice texture for the roof and windows.
It would change the look a lot.
Edit: Forgive me, i always try to texture everything, but nobody will see much of them on those tiny windows  :D

Thanks. I think I'll forget the roads alltogether, there is not much place for them.
I'm not sure about many things, it's my second Building after all.
Was hoping for more than every 100th Viewer to post some sort of comment and help with my Decisions, oh well..

Edit: @MHD I tried to make that Shopping Cart Housing and actually modeled a bunch of those Carts inside of it, but it's really hard to see on the Image. Thanks for Ideas anyway.
