Pak64 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Paper wagons set
I've only seen paper shipped in boxcars, never in gondolas.  A gondola like what you're showing there would typically be used for coil steel, scrap metal, pipe, and things of that sort.  I don't think too many printing companies would appreciate receiving a load of soggy paper after a rainstorm...

How about a boxcar like that Burlington Northern car that I showed the photo of?

Something like this, perhaps...

http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/bn/bn286027amh.jpg

I really don't need a whole bunch of different roadnames (and even a blank generic car would be fine with me)... what I'm after is just having a way to move enough paper at one time to make a profit, and be able to keep up with the paper mill's output!  The paper cars that are available only hold 8 rolls each, and the train fills up and pulls out, and next thing I know, I have 200 rolls sitting on the dock with nowhere to go!  And I end up having to run a m****ive fleet of trains just to keep up with the output.  Currently, I only move paper by truck (using Japanese trucks with a capacity of 23 rolls apiece) regardless of the distance because it's the only way I can make money with it.

I'm not sure what the capacity of these cars is in real life in terms of numbers of rolls (they're about 5600 cubic feet or so), but for the purposes of the sim, I'd like it to be somewhere between 20 and 24 rolls, with an operating cost of 2.00 per km or less.

And, by the way, unlike the other cars you did before, these cars are fully enclosed.  The roof has a pattern of shallow transverse ribs across it...

Pak64 / Any ships available for Cooling_Goods?
Does anyone know of any other ships available to carry Cooling_Goods besides the refrigerated container ship contained in the "Timothy's Ships II" pack?  This ship is not configured correctly... its capacity is "128 nothing", and will not take on a load.

I know the fishing vessels are set up for Cooling_Goods, but they are MUCH too expensive to operate profitably!

Would someone be willing to make a replacement refrigerated container ship with the proper configuration?

Pak64 Add-ons and Graphics / Error on EnCo Refrigerated Container Ship
This ship is included in "Timothy's Ships II".

This ship is not configured correctly to carry any cargo; its capacity is listed as "128 Nothing".  It should be able to carry 128 crates of Cooled Goods.

Is it possible for someone to make a fix for this vehicle, as there are no other ships (other than fishing trawlers, which are too expensive to operate) that I can find which are capable of carrying Cooled Goods?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Simutrans Help Center / Error on EnCo refrigerated container ship?
On the EnCo refrigerated container ship, the capacity is listed as "128 nothing" instead of "128 crates cooled goods".  Is there any way to convert the .pak file back into the source .dat and .pak files in order to make the necessary edits to fix this and allow the ship to be loaded?

Simutrans Help Center / Re: Do new industries get built as time progresses?
So is it not possible to get new oil fields, etc., since these aren't located in cities?

If you expand the map during a game (using the map editing tools as the Public Service player), how do you populate the new portions of the map with industries randomly (as opposed to putting them in yourself)?

Simutrans Help Center / Has anyone created any other styles of railroad signals?
Is it possible to make other styles of railroad signals for pak64 besides the European semaphores?

I would love to see some US styles, such as position lights, color position lights (CPLs), and color lights (both tri-light and searchlight styles).  Has anyone tried to make any of these?

Pak64 / New Industry Chains?
Has anyone considered making industry chains for the aluminum and/or copper industries?

Aluminum
 - Bauxite Mine, produces bauxite ore
 - Aluminum Smelter, converts bauxite to aluminum ingots. This process requires huge amounts of electricity; would it be possible to not allow this factory to operate unless hooked up to power lines?
 - End consumers may include canneries, soft drink bottlers, etc.

Copper
 - Copper Mine, produces copper ore
 - Smelter, produces copper ingots, further converted into copper pipe or wire

What do you all think?

Pak64 / Re: Realistic US modern trucks and trains?
What do you exactly mean with modern? after 90's?

I mean, diesel locomotives 1972 and later...

SD40-2 (I know there is already one in there, but it doesn't look very good)

And the freight cars to go with them, of course... coal hoppers and  bathtub gondolas for coal service (3-bay hoppers are also used for iron ore, gravel, etc.), automobile racks, tank cars, intermodal cars (trailers or containers on flatcars, for mail or boxed goods), boxcars, coil steel cars, grain hoppers, plastics pellet hoppers (the ACF 5800-cubic-foot Center Flow is a great example), centerbeam flatcars (for lumber and drywall service), 2-bay covered hoppers for sand and cement... plus whatever else might be required for new industry chains that might be developed on down the road.

Is it possible to do articulated freight cars?  For example, to do the intermodal cars in 3- or 5-unit sets that behave as individual cars (and count as 3 or 5 cars for purposes of measuring train length and platform usage) but cannot be physically separated from one another...

And it would be even better to have realistic railroad paint schemes... CSX, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, Conrail, Burlington Northern, Santa Fe, Southern Pacific, etc.

3D models of most of this equipment are available for use with Microsoft Train Simulator. So it seems to be a matter of getting screenshots from the precise angles required and shrinking them down to size...

Pak64 / Realistic US modern trucks and trains?
Is anyone planning on adding modern US trucks and trains to pak64?

And is there any way to have a proper "semi" tractor-trailer rig? I.e., a generalized tractor which can be paired up with a specialized trailer which actually carries the load...

Simutrans Help Center / Industries stop loading freight after some time
It seems that, after a short time of playing, while the industries are continuing to actually produce goods, they stop loading them onto outbound trucks or trains.  Eventually, I have a long line of empty trucks waiting to go into a freight yard, and the freight yard says "0 items waiting".  And my whole system grinds to a halt... I can no longer make money if my vehicles aren't getting loaded?

How do I get the factories to start sending the goods to the loading point again after they stop?
