Simutrans Gaming Discussion / Re: How do you organize your network?
My networking usually done in this way:
Within the Town: a Circular Bus route to the nearest railway station is a MUST.
Also for those suburb-factory lines.
(Underground/overground railways existed only for those overcrowded urban areas,
and based on bus stops for an easy access. Of course, to the nearest railway stations.)

Between the towns:
Well - depends on the following:
(1) Are those towns jointed into a single urban areas? If yes - treated as a single town:
but this time I may needed a few numbers of buslines, or even a subway (MTR).
(2) Does towns laid out within a circle? It is quite ****ured that circular lines did generate much profit that the single lined lines did.
(3) Intercity trains always in 12 cars (with a mail car: always repaked from the original.) and runs in circults (with singals, we can put up to 20 trains on a single line!)
(4) NO sharing tracks between lines! (If a railway line fails, you might be panic for handling 2 lines trains - 40 to 50 trains - at once!)
(5) Share Freight Trains ONLY when the P****enger Trains run at the same top speed - or either of them will block the another IF the Freight Trains goes slower.
(6) Piers and Airports always linked with any railway system - except the crowded urban centres.

DON'T to me:
(1) Never use a tram - as I got handful of double-deckers and bandies to do the same job.
Also building trams tracks, setting power lines cost too much to be done.
(That's why I think a overhead railway or subway did better - they don't share space with the road traffic!)
(2) Never building intercity trains with slow vehicles (only for those timeline-free players) -
30 Shinkansen bullet trains does the job of 50 normal p****enger trains with ease.
Yes - it's so expensive, but as the railway system covered all of the town in the map -
the first train can earn a million Cr within one single go-and-return trip. A train saved is a faster service you can offer.
(3) No Long railways for freight - instead, I get a existed station upgraded into a hub, and let another freight train running direct to the factories. Or Huge Oil Tankers for those productive oil rigs to the thirsty refineries and/or oil power stations DIRECTLY.

At last - I love suburbs expanding from the town centres - so I prefer get a busline from stations to popular tourist spots (or simply a housing estate) afar from the tracks (with a station built for the interchange.)

PS Cable Tram is the only tram I would like to apply - in mountainous regions only.
So, I need to show this exception at the end.

[ZH]中文 (Chinese) / Re: 無聊一作:Leyland Victory MkII
Is that for Pak 64, Pak 96 or Pak 128??
(It is so small.... could it be Pak 32?)

PS Another Right-hand-drive again: even you can't tell its bodyworks:
Alexander KB or Duple Metsec. (Too Small to be seen and tell, I mean.)

Randomness Lounge / Re: Explain your avatar
It is too simple to explain both the nickname and the avatar:

-Nickname
Actually its longer version is "Lingnan Bus Co.":
you're right, seems to be a joking stuff with my College life*.
(*That's Lingnan Chicken Rice<-a character changed from that Singaporean Hoi-nan Chicken Rice. However, You can't have Lingnan Chicken Rice for your lunch, haha~)
In fact, becoming a Pak-64 maker mainly on Buses, LNBC was founded in this way.

-Avatar (V 2.0)
Let me explain a little bit - it is a Volvo Olympian Mk II (B9TL) with Volgren Bodyworks (in unusual Pak 128 Game).
This LNBC Livery shown here is the 3rd version, combined the 1st version of purple skirt under the lower deck's windows, and the 2nd version of Pink-purple skirt (representing Bauhinia: the flower of Hong Kong).
The blue top is remained for every livery versions: to honor China Motor Bus (ex-franchised bus operator in Hong Kong after 1998) as a history icon to the transportation history in the Town.

Anyway, LNBC is NOT a real bus service operator in Hong Kong,
but you may interested if the real operator KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus in Full) really operated such as the bus in my avatar in normal service.
[However, it looks alike a Golden brick instead. Only a test pet B9TL fits with this Volgren Bodyworks.]

Simutrans Gaming Discussion / Re: Poll: Public Service...trick or treat?
Even I have developed 'Public service-Only' buildings for those Simutrans games with map editor- I seldom use it.
Is 'Public service' a trick? Yes: you may build what you liked regardless city building rules, get much citizens as you could (just with a click only), get your factories estates built- sounded alike Socialist government. However, careless routing and wrong urban planning could ruin your effort- especially congested roads and no-where-to-dig tunnels system. (Of course, it is a Longterm tricks.)
On the other hand, it is a treat- if you turn that industrial growth OFF (increase in population=0), and those curious buildings do not welcome your autobahn to p**** through.

So, it depends how do our folks use this "fairy stick".
And I seldom use it- since I know abusing this map editor could let the game 'boring' and it causes some longterm troubles that I might regret. (Especially the "station-full" windows pop out in those premature logistic railways, piers and oil rigs. You will upset if you did not reserve places for expanding the station's warehouses in advance, or circult the railways for multi-train operations.)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: LightRailSystemSet [LRSS] Just Released on Oct,12
[Off topic mode on again]
That's my own creation, and surly NOT for publicize.
Sorry to disappoint you about that.
(There's too many HK buses in Pak 128 format available on the web.)

However, some of those buses are ACTUALLY coming from those buses
that really operate in Hong Kong, including this Volgren-body double-decker
(Volvo Olympian B9TL in full academic name-it's unreal).
So, if you don't mind to read Chinese (or get your webpage translator ready),
you may just visit these sites for those released buses
(Of course, mainly in HK operators liveries...)

[For LNBC HK's Local Buses]
http://simu.shorturl.com/(Reminder: in Chinese)
http://www.ushb.net/(Reminder: in Chinese)
In both sites, another authors' creations are also available-
even trains, buildings, etc.

[For more on another HK Local Buses...]
http://www.geocities.jp/hksimutrans/
Pak MaWan-another KMB-related paks for Pak 128-fetch them with a single download.
http://blog.qooza.hk/mbdb
MBDB Simutrans Workshop (Chinese): another pick for Hong Kong stuffes,
as well as Trains from China and Taiwan.
http://blog.qooza.hk/Simutrans
Simutrans Hong Kong Workshop (Chinese): most recent active Simutrans Vehicle printer-
if you wanted the newest from Hong Kong, just pay a visit there.[/off topic mode off]

In fact, the tram tracks in the photo is the official tram tracks. Since Simutrans shared both Railway stations and road stops for tramways, it is possible to use those platforms on railways.
(Since our people is treating Light Rail as a tramway system for local transport proposes-
but it sounded more railway-like than the tramway system run on the Island-a living historical relics running from 1904 to now!)

PS You may customize your fleet by paking yours with Makeobj. (But for those really wanted with know-how on writing dat files and printing those png graphics. For more, go to the Japanese Simutrans website for those dat-and-png-detailed vehicles.)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: LightRailSystemSet [LRSS] Just Released on Oct,12
[Off topic mode on]
Is it the road paks from this site http://www.geocities.jp/rs_simutrans/rs_pak128/index.html
(Another Japanese stuffes there...)
BTW,those roads have a little bit slower on the maximum speed (<55 km/h)-surly NOT for those Double deckers on my own (=130 km/h, surly a little bit faster for those modern one).
Also, some of those road paks ARE for RIGHT-hand drive games: another reason I have to give those up (applying Left-hand drive).
The site is named after STP Development-Chukoku branch.

PS If I could repak those roads and bridges on the speed, I were using them rather than various Japanese Road/bridge paks-Uh Oh~[/off topic mode off]

Simutrans Gaming Discussion / Re: A new tram concept
Japanese Simutrans Pak-makers also did paking trams alike what MHD said.
Here is the link for the resulted double-sided tramways (Pak 64):
http://japanese.simutrans.com/index.php?plugin=attach&refer=%A5%A2%A5%C9%A5%AA%A5%F3%2F%B8%F2%C4%CC%BB%DC%C0%DF%20%A3%B2&openfile=Trolleybus_and_Tram-set.zip

But anyway, the crosslinking between the railway system and the road system required an alternation on coding "trams", "tramways", etc. If you really wanted a tram defined as a road vehicle run on tracks WITHOUT any misalignment, this is the question you need to work with the simutrans program itself. (And this mixture of road-rail definition will surly difficult to be applied, unlike the airway added between 88-series and 89-series. It is because it requires a recoding on both existing road-way and rail-way definition. Those headache jobs are needed here.)

Don't forget this fact: the tramways NEEDED traditional railway bridges and tunnels IF the tramway need them, just like the very first time when the monorail became one of the Simutrans waytypes. You might need working with the bridges and tunnels for tramways if you disconnect tramways from the traditional railway waytype. (Relatively easy to do with this redefining on waytypes, but we would require something more for tramways.)

Also, the roadway-ize tramways are causing another problem-how to get those road traffic to use/not to use the tramway tiles. Coding tramways as a type of roadway might resulted citycars driving on the tramways track-even those trams needed electricity to run. In other words, you should consider another question on how to separate trams from the normal road vehicles.

It is more and more difficult to integrate tramways as a part of roadway system and as a part of railway BOTH. Much more programming deifinitions would be needed, as well as new paks for new defined waytype.

To do with that 2-side tramways (or narrowguage) is not easy as you suggest, my buddy.

In fact, using double-deckers to run those large-volume p****enger routes can be another way to replace those tramways-so, what do I need would be those 18 metre-Neoplan mageshuttles, rather than a tram cars. (That's why I was also given-up those narrowguaged Light Rail Cars once created.)

So, I wish MHD's project succeed, but I feel my Tridents works prefectly with the underground railways. Trams? Not so ecomonical on laying tracks, etc. (Also, Trams with Road vehicle properties run at 50 km/h on the cityroad. You can't escape from slow speed if you coded the trams alike the buses.)

Anyway-MHD got something we really wanted once upon a time, but we have another possible way to get the same question answered without those trams. I am sorry to disappoint MHD here, but it is the real thing why we given those roadway-trams up: too many recoding jobs to be done, too few players would really find that friendly to apply.

PS 2 12-metre Tridents (@133p) could carry much more than a 18-metre Megashuttle (@176p). The same calculation applied to buses/trams. (But I wonder, if MHD could speed his trams, on cityroads, more than 50 km/h WITH the properties of the tram coded as a road vehicle. This could be only reason to get the tramways redefined, right?)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: vehicle click to gain money
The new, bigger and better scenario, I work on now since beginning of 2009 doesn't need this goodie anymore.

My buddy, the freeplay mode is still there, but you need to switch it on
after the Simutrans starts up. (System>Player>Freeplay mode)
[I wondered before when I have started the new game by using -freeplay command in DOS mode,
it returned "you were running on loan" during my first railway line opened.]

PS I wonder again, if the bag of money appeared in our Chinese NEW YEAR parade.
(But don't tell me if it did happen so. It sounded crazy, even just showing as a parade vehicle.)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Work in Progress: Zoo
Cool~ (Even at this moment I do gaming with Pak 64...)
GOOD WORK!
What do our folks thinking about the aquarium??
(It may sounded tricky to suggest that:
since the aquarium always built inside the building, which unlike the zoo.)

Could a stage for Whales' shows a better way to show "This is a aquarium. Tourists enjoyed the Whale talent shows a lot, or even a chance to feed them."[Oh, sounded alike the Ocean Park on Hong Kong Island, but surly some shows alike that.]

Er, it is just a merely suggestion to do with the fishes. (Or we may need a bigger space for those aquarium facilities if we do want to have the zoo and the aquarium BOTH.)

PS Wa's Resizeobj converts your Pak 128 buildings into Pak 64s. I wonder this tool can help Pak 64s' players enjoy the Pak 128 world. (Japanese Simutrans Page> Links> Wa's.....) [Warning: Japanese speaking (Get use of Google translation for a merely better English translation.)]

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: LightRailSystemSet [LRSS] Just Released on Oct,12
Use the Winrar Archiver to extract them, or convert it to zip using online .rar>.zip website.

PS Wa's Resizeobj has brought this platforms into Pak 64s.
It's really a large capacity platform set: 384 pax for each covered one.
(Sounds really good for large volume traffic, but too big for those stops with a few p****enger.)

Anyway, many thanks-

Pak64 / Re: Controlling industry generation in simuconf
You can alter this parameter, but the parameter governing the industrial growth
is located at cityrules.tab under the Pak\config folder.

"# at which number of inhabitants we need a new market?
industry_increase_every = 2000"(Just after a few parameter about the cities...)

(Also, for ...\simutrans\config\Simuconf.tab,
the parameter comes to industry production, connection matters,
but not for setting the growth rate of factories.)

[ZH]中文 (Chinese) / Re: 尋找香港地名 .text
簡單的方法:
(1)自己用NotePad打晒所有香港的地方名
(2)Save as Citylist_zh.txt

Citylist_en.txt
(當然只有用英文界面的玩家才需要注意上述改動)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: LightRailSystemSet [LRSS] Project 95%
For HK folks-what you are going to do is really fulfilling the playability on using a tram/Light Rail system...
(Of course I understand what you're doing here.)
However, all walks of people playing Simutrans--and they might be using something alike instead.
(I applied those monorail/maglev system-and SNFOS platform sets works perfectly. But for the traditional railways--I applied various types of platforms: British type, tram stops, etc.)

Anyway-keep going for this project even it's working slow. Simutrans is a cyber-commonplace for any folks to share their lifestyles for free-including buses excluding loans(->freeplay mode). You may find that you'll be satisfied what you've done during the game.

PS Players use the Pak, Pakers alter their Pak, Pak-creators define the concept behind the Pak.
(Next phase> User-only Curious buildings>> Ver. 100+ only;
Production line merging between Pak 64s and Pak 128s-trial run.)

Pak128 Bug Reports / Re: Concrete ship
Well, I do know what you have been faced with that troubled water.
If I were you (using Ver 102.0 with no patch), just try this resolution out:
(1)Apply the "Public Player" (Shift-P), and open your factory builder.
(2)Build the concrete factory on the island which accept those concrete.
(3)Link the concrete factory newly-built to its sourcing factories (Stonequarries,Cement mills) AND the the consumption shops (Materialswholesale) to make the factory works.

And it should work perfectly without the concrete ship.
Sounds a better solution than pak-ing a ship for concrete only?

PS In real world, concrete is too easy to harden without rolling it.
That's why ships can't do the job-they must be sunk when concrete start to dry and harden.
[And concrete factories always located near the end-users' site. Believe it.]

Pak128 / Re: Big Ships
fabio, those longer docks are in Pak 64. (Can be longer to 4 tiles with a crane for containers...)
Would anyone get the Pak 128 version pak-ed and making them official for those Pak 64 standard docks did?

PS I also wonder with ships, but I prefer ships in a convoy...
(or if the Makeobj supported, ships with mixed cargo types-
Cooled goods can be also loaded on a container(boxed goods) ship...I suppose.)

(After beloved Vilvoh's post: Yes, sure, can do it that way-but it could be done by coding works-
making the ships linked in a convoy--like cars of a train--tested with successful outcomes.)

Pak128 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: vehicle click to gain money
That is a HongKongese vehicle Pak for getting extra money by buying and selling it.
For sure, the cost of the Vehicle has its negative value.
(Since I have tested that-and rolled out the Training Bus (for Pak 64,HK Local only) for similar function.
But I believe nobody would like it as it sounded somehow "cheating stuff". So I dropped that from the package I provided in this site.)

However, since Simutrans has provided with freeplay mode,
I am not so pleased to use them. (However, I would likely to use it if the freeplay mode fails=when the "on-loan" pop-up appears.)

Also, that's another Japanese Warship Pak in Pak 128 providing somehow the same function alike the moneybag-I wonder it will gain money by dismantle its steely body (or Selling the ship!)

PS The Training Bus I created is actually possess a running cost of 500+ credit/km.
(It sounded the Reality-the bus-captain trainer doesn't come cheap.)

Pak64 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Trolleybus 64 attempt
After reading from you,I do know something I have attached could be useful:
http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=189.0
(That's a CMB Titan. You may enjoy this by pak-ing it with the dat. posted.)

Hope this template works-since trolley buses are running on the roads, not on a rail.
So-you may need a citycar template, not the railcar's.

PS Would anybody made that CMB's Titan a template for all? Thanks in advance.

[ZH]中文 (Chinese) / Re: 唔識轉中文版呀
當一開始Simutrans的時候
你應該見到有一個視窗"Language"的...
如果要用那個繁體中文的話,
先接一下T.Chinese看看...

This is the translation by LNBC about the story of AP69 in English.

In the Morning of 10th July 2003, a Neoplan Centroliner AP69 (JU4667) was serving the Route 265M (Tin Hang<>Lai Yiu), p****ed the Ting Kau Section of Tuen Mun Highway, headed to Tin Hang. After with a collision with a container truck, JU4667 was pushed out of the highway, and fallen to the slope 30m below.

This accident claimed 21 dead and 20 injured, as well as JU4667 the 1st KMB Centroliner retired as its critical damages could not be repaired.

As one of the dead, a teacher, was once my schoolmate before, I honestly requested a silent prayer for those p****ed away during this accident. May all of them rest in peace, and enjoy applying this add-on.

Pak64 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Leyland London buses
Oh, yes~
You got it correctly our beloved vilvoh. XD

In fact, our Hong Kong folks relied (and still relying!) Leyland doubledeckers
for getting around--that's why I felt interested in those singledeckers
much more than those doubledeckers do (since some of our folks might be riding all of them:
[so, may I introduce a little bit more.])

(1)Atlanteans: PDR 1/1 and AN68 (all of them were second-handed when they arrived.)
(2)Fleetlines: some 300+ 2nd handed DMS and those brand-new built (around 800.)
(3)Victory Mk II: the bus with its engine placed on the front-not for quiet commuting.
(4)Titan: both front-engined PD3/4 and PD3/5, and the sole Titan B15 coach.
[Shall we go on for more?]
(5)Olympian: "you can find it there-" (not matter downtown or suburb new towns, but
those Volvo's one were replacing their jobs--not matter they are air-con. or not.)
[For branches of the Leyland Group-Guy, Albion, Daimler are not listed. Another long story-to-tell. How UK buses getting involved in our folks lives in HK.]

Not to discourage our Devotee vilvoh, I am just happy to hear from you.
(In fact, our Hong Kong folks mainly pak their buses in Pak 128.
Before I rolled my creation in Pak 64-there were too few for the game.
That's why I started created paks in Pak 64 format. Or not, Pak 64 will become a boring world to play with.)
Therefore, I believe that it is too early to give those doubledeckers up-
at lease-those old-fashioned, lovely Routemasters and more cl****ic stuffes.
(Somelse from HK: my beloved LNBC, where're the Guy series?
At when you could finishing pak-making and uploading?[LNBC: :-X])

You may also try some of our well-known London buses in Hong Kong
(Started from Fleetline DMS-since they were actually run on London roads once upon the time.)
and some of our folks did created papercraft of those buses-sounded helpful for painting images.

PS "London Transport" is just a searching word for web-searching, just like searching "CMB" for their Guy Arabs.
Use them on any web-searching engines like Google. [Even do with the photo search!]

For requesting creations from our Devotee vilvoh-thanks a lot  :-*, but thanks a lot  :-*.

Pak64 Add-ons and Graphics / Re: Leyland London buses
I see what vilvoh's means.
In fact, the dat I provided came from the 2nd-hand data
from that only Titan in our town once upon a time.

Here comes the specification of TC1 (1980-1995):
Engine=Gardner 6LXB (150 bph)
[a very common rear engine at that 1970s buses]
Bodyworks=Park Royal
[In fact,I was hardly found a Titan without that Park Royal bodyworks
(alike the Matchbox's Titan)...
Say that it were rebodied--for vilvoh's version.]
Seats=73
[That's why CMB coded it was a Coach-no standing p****engers allowed.
In fact, it was a test pet to CMB arrived in 1979.]

Of course, CMB's TC1 is only a trace to Leyland Titan (B15),
but it is for sure, Olympian (B45) comes after it-
overwhelming the roads in UK, HK and Singapore
(as well as some of them serving somewhere else).

PS The remaining 1124 of them are/were serving in local England
Would our beloved vilvoh get a try to search started from London Transport?
(As well as the Olympians (B45).)
PS2 I doesn't matter about scaling-but it sounded very different to our lone test pet.
(Since I perfer a bigger scaling for singledeckers.)
Hope those hints works for this project-
and I am looking a Lyxn (I'm hardly recall that singledecker model.Sorry for that.) rolling out.   ;)
