Title: Railcar problem
Post by: Colin on March 05, 2010, 06:11:18 am
PAK64.263 r3122 (04/03/10) but maybe earlier version too.
H-Trans/Empire Logging Stake Car miscounts number of cars. ok until it reaches 9 then only goes to 11 although showing 24 tiles used, and does not fill 12 platform station.

You mean the display of 'station tiles' in the depot is incorrect?
Please try out what happens if the train drives north/west in the station, then it should use the right number of tiles. The point is, that trains driven north/west need different amount of station tiles than if driving east/south.
Please also write which combination of locomotive/wagons does not work properly.

Hi Dwachs, I think you misunderstood me. When you purchase this combination in a Depot it counts the tiles used thus 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 9 9 11. This is using two cars per tile and includes two engines. It fills the Depot window as if there were 12 including two engines but there are only actually 11 and includest two engines. It only seems to happen with this particular car. When it runs there only 22 units instead of 24,

I really dont get it. Which loco you are using as there are many H-trans locos around?
Screenshot perhaps?

Please read my post properly It's the H-Trans/Empire Logging Stake Car. It doesn't matter which engine.
It's no good showing a screen shot because it would need a video so that you could see what happened.

Hi Colin :)
I have tried 2 Brose BR234 engines with 22 H-Trans/Empire Logging Stake Cars. It shows in the depot as requiring 12 tiles, but end up using only 11 tiles (judging with my naked eyes only, but maybe internally it takes 12 tiles). However, I have counted the number of vehicles, and there are indeed 24 of them running, including the 2 engines. Maybe it's because the H-Trans/Empire Logging Stake Cars are placed too close together that there seems to be 2 cars missing?
Actually, 11 H-Trans/Empire Logging Stake Cars only require 5 tiles. So, it's not really the case that 1 car span half a tile -- should be somewhat less.

Now, I got it :) You can see how many tiles the train reserves by pressing 'b'.
I tried it: Knightly's convoi needs indeed 11 tiles if it enters the station from north/west (from top), but if the train enters the station from south/east (from bottom) then it really reserves 12 tiles. So the display in the depot window is right, as it shows the maximum number a convoi reserves in a station.

Just curious -- why is there such a difference depending on the direction?

summarizing: trains driven north/west into a station drives half a tile less than trains driving south/east. That is, when the train drives n/w it needs 1/2 tile more than when driving s/e.

I see. Thanks for your explanation ;)

Does this explain the count in the depot? 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 9 11

That's strange as, during my test, 10 was not skipped. My sequence was, starting from the 2 prepending engines, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11, 12. Maybe you added the engines last, and the engine (with its ****ociated tender or rear engine) span more than 1 tile, and hence the jump?

No sorry knightly I always put the engines up first, and this problem only happens with that particular rail car. the other lumber car works fine.

Since this is a simplified sequence for 24 units (2 engines + 22 cars), do you mind to post the full sequence, noting down each successive tile requirement when you add a new engine or car?
