Title: [solved] run online installer as administrator
Post by: Isaac Eiland-Hall on March 12, 2010, 02:14:15 pm
Thought I'd try it out for 102.2.2 (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=4642.0)... Chose all paks, installation proceeded until one of the pak128 options, where I got an error (didn't save, sorry - but it couldn't find the file), and the installation instantly disappeared.

It created an entry in the Start menu, but it did not create the c:\program files\simutrans directory, much less put anything in there.

This might be a Windows 7 issue, as I have noticed that when I extract or copy files somewhere, they are put in a temporary location first, then actually copied to the location (as all conflict questions happen at the 'end' of the copy).

Maybe windows file protection removed them just after installation. The link is only created after suceessful install. Did it ask for Administrator rights? It should have done this.

It didn't ask for admin rights, but this time the installer claimed to complete - but still no c:\program files\simutrans folder.

I'm in the process of running it again, having right-clicked the installer and told it to install as admin.

Now, this is not directly related, but as Windows7 has a new feature, I thought I'd try it out - this will only load in IE, I think: http://eiland-hall.com/simutrans/SimutransOnlineInstaller-102-2-2-SUCCESS.zip -- it didn't take all the useful screenshots I think it should have, and I clicked during the downloads to specifically generate the ones that it did down there... but still, it might help us get more information from some users...

Okay, specifically right-clicking and running as administrator worked. I'm gonna add a note to the download page...

Please try new version. It should explicitely asking for admin rights and not just elevated rights (for copying into program folder ... Hnn!)

Just re-downloaded, and no prompt in Windows 7.

I never did get a prompt of any kind from Windows previously, either.

But I'm curious to hear from others, now. It could just be me.

It worked on a second machine with windows 7 for me. Maybe the file was not updated on SF yet.

I had the same problem when I downloaded the installer a couple of days ago.  The new one seems to work fine.
