Long time ago I announced a freight plane pak, but by several reasons I didn't start it .Well, now I've time enough so let's do it... This is the previous list. It mixes planes, helicopters and skyvans (small planes)

I can include 3 or 4 more, specially in helicopters cathegory, so if you have any request, post it here
The C-130 should actually be named the L-100 or L-100-30 (extended version) in their civilian forms. :)
Done. Thanks Patrick..:)
Oh Boy! can't wait, this is something I've been requesting for a long time. The single transport plane (Guppy) was totally inadequate as it would only transport boxed goods.
Perhaps the names of the models were wrong. When I say
Guppy family, I'm refering mainly to Mini-Guppy, Super-Guppy, Pregnant-Guppy and CL 44 Skymonster models.

Yo've more info at
allaboutguppys.com (http://www.allaboutguppys.com/)
How about the Airbus A300-600ST Beluga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_Beluga) as the latest stage of the guppy-formed planes?
Using freightplanes, take care of the correct loading procedure!
I think there's already a Beluga made by Raven, that's why It was discarded.
Ah ok - didn't know that.
Just in case I was misunderstood. When I referred to the "Guppy" I meant the one that is already included with the PAK's.
Ahh...was that, now I get it. Well, that plane can be easily improved just modifying the dat file, to increase its capacity up to, let's say 100 or 150 units. IMHO, there's no need to create it from scratch, so I would not include it in this pak.
The first tests with Antonov an 225. I've some problems with the scale and I need your help/advice.
(http://lh3.ggpht.com/XdXavier/SNiXKwk3WTI/AAAAAAAAAo4/BG7e4xkzQ9A/s400/an225_test_pre.jpg) (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0HvtdO3cMiNJLFCs7Xb5yw)
As you can see the an225 is smaller than the Beluga, and AFAIK, in real life is the other way. But I can't make it bigger because it gets out of the 64x64 tile...Any idea?
Well, you did see the thread with "big planes"... so what are you waiting for? Make it as pak96 (just make sure to align it correctly) and bye bye, Beluga! :)
Yep. In fact, I've been talking with Zeno, and he mentioned that Prissi has said that the Beluga is out of scale. I would say deformed, to appear larger (I'm talking about pak64) I might use offsets, but I would like it to be playable with old versions (99.17, at least) I'll search for Beluga source images in the SVN...
EDIT: As suspected, The Beluga is SD (SuperDeformed)
A preview of the An 225 (pak96 scale). I've to improve several things like the texture (quite plain) and the bright (needs dirt) but imo the size is right. I might deform it but I think it looks good enough.
(http://lh4.ggpht.com/XdXavier/SNqm3-we4xI/AAAAAAAAAqM/dYt2oLEqcyI/s288/an225.png) (http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CXqSW7Njbbyt1G5jL9SZ6w)
Now, an important issue, the attributes. I need your opinion about this:
freight=Buecher
payload=500
speed=800
power=103050
gear=50
weight=285
cost=15925000
runningcost=7915
intro_year=1986
retire_year=2020
I have doubts with the price (currently 159.250
cr, more than the Airbus) and the running costs (79.15
cr) I think they are quite balanced, taking into account that it will be the largest plane on the game. The most expensive plane that transport p****engers is the A380 that cost 129.000
cr so imho, it makes sense that the largest freight plane costs at least that amount. What do you think?
Hey, finally this great plane is getting into Simutrans!
Unfortunately 64's pricing is outside my scope.
I've been doing some tests with these values:
- Price: 195,750 cr.
- running cost: 105 cr.
- speed: 750 km/h
- gear: 0.5
And the results show that although it's the most expensive plane in the game, it's a money making machine! In the tests, I only used 20% of capacity (100-121 out of 500) and all I can say is that the profits are around 50-60%. I guess that there's some influence of the bonus speed....I must find the correct values to keep it balanced, so I'll do some tests more with a higher running cost value, and after that I'll post the release.
Finally, these are the attributes:
capacity: 500 packages
speed: 750 km/h
power: 103.050 kw
weight: 285 tn
price: 495.650 cr
runningcost: 115,55 cr.
years: 1986-2025
You must think carefully if it's worth to use it. It's recommended for transporting big amounts at short and medium distances. My advice is use it only in situations where you surely know that it will fly with at least 20% of its capacity, but with small amounts (10-50 packages), you'll loose a lot of money. I mean A LOT (my tests say about 50K and 180K per month) I hope you enjoy with it... ;D
P.S: next one will be VTM Atlant, a russian gas/petrol carrier.
A preview of the VTM Atlant, the first and probably the only plane that can carry petrol/gasoline in Simutrans.. ;)
EDIT: the preview image is updated.
I had a problem, a big problem. The plane is done but seems that Simutrans does not accept heretics so it doesn't load the plane, at least with 99.17 or higher. I've also tried with nightlies (r2052) and I can't make it work. Actually, I can't find where's the bug because I did some test with 99.04 (the version I usually make test with) and, although the plane didn't carry petrol/oil, at least the game loaded the plane, and it was shown at the air depot window....is there any restriction in that sense? is it actualy possible to transport oil/petrol by air?

P.S: I can't give you more details because I not able to run simutrans with
-log 1 parameter....(http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_daumendreh2.gif)
I just tried with your .dat and some dummy graphics (in 128x128) and it worked just fine with 100.1 r2040. (I used makeobj 49)
Does your pak file have a suitable size? Sometimes makeobj doesn't report a problem, but just builds an incomplete .pak file - and I figured the best indicator is file size.
The pak file size is 8,58 KB. I'm using pakhelper with the latest makobj (49)
I attach the source files in case you want to try out. The old pak file takes 11,3 KB, and I've realized that it works!!!
As you said, must be something related with makeobj. I've checked the
pak.log that Pakhelper has, but there're no warnings or errors. Anyway I've tried with the old pak and the nightly r2052 and it works as it should. Thanks for the help, DirrrtyDirk!
P.S: the plane will be ready in a few days.
VT-M Atlant ready for downloading......(http://www.greensmilies.com/smile/smiley_emoticons_kaffee2.gif)

power: 116600 kw
running cost: 48,95 cr.
cost: 207.650 cr.

P.S: Next ones will be probably the SkyVans or the ATL-98
Preview of ATL-98 Cavair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aviation_Traders_Carvair)
EDIT: preview updated
Finally I've done two versions of ATL-98, based in BAF and ANSETT color schemes. The plane is a little bit expensive but I've realized that you can earn a lot of money tranporting ink so... ;D
Long time ago, we were discussing about skycranes and strange airplanes. I posted a picture of V-22 Osprey and Isaac, old forum admin and host, said that he would like to see it in Simutrans. Well, all I can say is that sometimes wishes come true.... ;)
P.S: it's the civilian version, of course.
P.S 2: Next one will probably be
Canadair CL44 yukon
Preview of Canadair CL 44 Yukon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CL-44)
Since you're talking about skycranes:
http://creator.lego.com/en-us/Products/Vehicles/4995.aspx
Finally, I've done three versions of CL-44 based on different company color schemes (CAX, TransAmericaCargo and TradeWinds)
P.D: Next one is Boeing 307 Stratoliner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_307)
Nice! And quite true to reality again.
(At first I thought it was Super Constellation…)
It's quite similar.However,
Super Constellation (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-69_Constellation) has three wings on tail and a dolphin shape. Looks very beautiful! I think I'm going to include it on the list...:)
Preview of Boeing 307 Stratoliner (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_307). You can see it in action on this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omZSyCFWejI)

EDIT: preview updated.
For the next Christmas i would write St Nicholas a letter, with the wish that i get this miraculousness freight plane pak also for pak128 :) nice works ! (i love airplanes and work also in the airline business)
I do not discard to port some of them to 128pak, but I've to finish the 64pak versions first...by now, you have Zeno's plane pak. It's less varied but It's very good, too.... ;)
Boeing 307 Stratoliner finished....
357 km/h -- capacity 38 units -- cost: 22K -- power: 2600 kw -- dates: 1940-1970
P.S: Next one is Blackburn Beverly B-101 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackburn_Beverley), a 1950's plane from the Royal Air Force.
Preview of Blackburn B101:
Three versions of Blackburn Beverly, from 1950 to 1968:
- Blackburn B-101 C1
- Blackburn Beverly RAE
- Blackburn Beverly RAF-ME
Next one is CL-100-x Hercules (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-130_Hercules)
I prefer to continue with Boeing 747-400 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747-4002). It's more or less as big as Antonov AN-225. I'll make 9 versions with different color schemes (Qantas, CargoLux, JAL, KLM, AirFrance, CathayPacific, China Airlines, Asiana, Singapore Airlines and British Airways)
I'm still searching a blueprint of 747-400 LFC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747_Large_Cargo_Freighter) a.k.a Dreamlifter to include it too.
Wow..that would be very much appreciated.. :D I'm currently depicting the global air transport industry (see pak64 discussion) using the "The World" map I downloaded from maps.simutrans.
Would that be for p****enger transport?
Could I request Singapore Airlines and/or British Airways to be added in the livery?
Well, this is a
freight planes pak but I guess I might do an exception. After all, the hardest part (modeling the plane in Blender) is done, therefore add two new color schemes won't represent much more work.. :)
Added
Oh thanks very much.. :D
Hmm..its up to you if you'd like to make it freight or p****enger..though I would be much delighted if some (or maybe all) would be the latter, or maybe both freight and p****enger. :)
I think you'll have to wait until p****engers plane pak for that... ;)
Although I've not created the graphics yet, I'll surely upload them to graphics.simutrans.com (dat files too) In case you want to create p****angers versions, you only have to get png and dat file, change freight and payload atributes and compile it to create the pak file, but please keep the copyright.
BTW, I forgot to mention that all png files of planes from this pak are available at graphics.simutrans.com, at User galleries >> vilvoh >> freight planes gallery (link (http://graphics.simutrans.com/thumbnails.php?album=23))....Feel free to use them but please keep the copyright.
Ok.. :)..would I need any program for editing the freight and payload attributes, as well as the png? (If I'll have a time to edit it)
You just need a text editor to modify the dat file (MS Notepad, WordPad, Vim, etc..) but you don't need to edit the png, only the dat.
First preview of 747-400 series. If I remember correctly they are Qantas, Asiana, KLM Cargo, JAL, Korean Cargo and United Airlines. I'm still working on the rest.. :)
Almost finished..They only need some special night colors. The source png is available at
graphics.simutrans.com, as always in
User galleries >> vilvoh >> freight planes(http://lh5.ggpht.com/_dgV8cATuuJA/SShn-6IVUKI/AAAAAAAABCo/UDRmGLgzxc4/s400/747-400_series_pre.png)
Ready to download. 15 versions with different atributes and color schemes.
Wow thanks!.. :D..They do look great.
I think I'll just be waiting for the pax plane pak because even if i'll configure the dat file for them to carry p****engers, i'll miss the plane windows, esp. during the night.
I've just finish the
747-400 LCF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_747_Large_Cargo_Freighter)
DreamLifter...
I was thinking that as this is a freight oriented pak, in addition to vehicles, we would have to include some buildings to complet it...any ideas or suggestions about freight terminals and airports? a sample image (http://www.parkes.nsw.gov.au/economic/7022/5764/Image/ParkesInternationalFreightAirport.png), just to inspire... :)
Next one is AirSpeed Amb****ador (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airspeed_Amb****ador)
EDIT: preview updated.
AirSpeed 57 Amb****ador ready for downloading.. 17 tn -- 55 un. capacity -- 438 km/h -- 1951-83.
Next one on the list is McDonnell Douglas DC-10 (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC-10) with FedEx & Lufthansa Cargo (LHCargo) color schemes..
EDIT: preview updated
Amazing!
Don't forget a DC-10 with Lufthansa skin. :D
Does Lufthansa have a Cargo division??
oh YES! http://www.lhcargo.com (http://www.lhcargo.com)
;)
Ok, I got it..link (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:LH_Cargo_MD-11F_D-ALCL.jpg)
P.S: I know that's not a DC-10, it's a Boeing MDF-11 but both are quite similar (triple engine) so I guess the color scheme doesn't change.
they have also
747 Jets: http://www.pbase.com/toptag/image/21513706 (http://www.pbase.com/toptag/image/21513706)
737: http://picasaweb.google.com/safetygallerie/SAFETYCARDSFORTRADEANDSELL#5130160935842560530 (http://picasaweb.google.com/safetygallerie/SAFETYCARDSFORTRADEANDSELL#5130160935842560530)
and since 1999 the MD11 - according to one website its the successor of the DC10, main difference are the winglets ... the color scheme like shown on your picture is quite constant over the last 20+ years.
on the quick way don't know where to find the other introduction dates ... sorry.
d'oh!! I thought I've included Lufthansa Cargo in the 747-400 pak..... :-[
Don't worry about service dates, because wikipedia and airliners.net have a lot of info about that issue (chronology and fact sheets)
It's finished and ready to fly.. ;D... you've two versions: FedEx and Lufthansa Cargo (LHCargo) color schemes.
Features: 121tn -- capacity: 225 units -- 910 km/h -- 1971-2020 -- 80cr. running cost -- price:220K cr.
P.S: After this goes Armstrong Whitworth (AW) 660 Argosy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armstrong_Whitworth_AW.660_Argosy)
Preview of AW 660 argosy.

AW 660 Argosy series ready to download, with four color schemes (Oras, Ipec, Elan and TransAirCargo)
Well, we continue with
Boeing 377 StratoCruiser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratocruiser), a civilian version of C-97 Stratofreighter from US army that was the base design for guppy and super guppy airplane series. The list of color schemes is the following:
PanAm, Northwest, SAS, Dragon wings, BOAC and United AirLines.

EDIT: Image updated.
Boeing 377
StratoCruiser ready to download. Finally, I've done 5 color schemes (Boac, United, SAS, Panam and United) Enjoy.. :)
Btw, a few comments ago I mentioned the possiblity of expanding the pak with extension buildings for airports, and well, that's what I've been doing. I present you the new GBi Air Cargo Terminal. I've to solve some issues because as you can see it has two floors over the ground level and one under it, but It's about 60%.

Nice. Really Nice!!!
These houses do look nice...
(maintainer inside has dark thoughts)
Thanks.. ;D. As It seems you like them, here you have two more. They're bigger than the previous ones (3x3) I'll probably make another big one (4x4) related with Cathay Pacific HK Air Cargo Terminal, and with that one we can consider the extension building pak is finished.
P.S: They look strange but it's due to the image quality. After all, they are just previews, aren't they?
Where is the snow? 8)
They look,,,, AWSOME JUICE!!!
Mmm...well, first I've to finish the summer versions... ::)....but I don't want to make it more complex so for winter versions, I think I'll just add snow in roofs and ground floors.
Btw, as I said, I'll try to model the
Cathay Pacific air cargo terminal at Hong Kong International Airport (http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_INTL/aboutus/pressroomdetails?refID=89c8249c861c8110VgnVCM32000011d21c39____). Here you have an

EDIT: While I was using Tilecutter to chop the png file, I've realized that its dimensions are not 4x4, but 8x8!! Anyway it fits on the oficial scale, so it doesn't matter. See it in action.

wow-vilvoh, this is just beautiful
Excellent project :P :o
The AN-225 is much larger its over 10 meters longer and its wingspan is over 28 meters larger. The An-124 is closer to the 747.
But nice planes
Yes, I know. The problem is that I can't make them bigger because I would need to use offsets, that are not implemented in 0.99.17. Any way the AN-225 is the biggest airplane possible without using offsets.
Some ingame screenshots of GBi Air Cargo Terminal. I'll post the pak file tomorrow.
(http://www.postimage.org/gx2vzOX0.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx2vzOX0)
GBi Air Cargo Terminal ready to download. It's a level 3 extension building that means it will increase stop's capacity in 384 units. As always the sources are available at graphics.simutrans.com.
One important thing. I've used the latest makeobj (atm, v49) to pak the object and I wasn't able to use it in v100, so I strongly recommend you to update your simutrans copy to v101 in case you want to play with it. Anyway if anybody is able to use it in simutrans v100, please notify it.
P.S: I'm pretty sure it's not object's fault, but it's due to my copy of v100 is somehow broken...who knows.. :-\
good job vilvoh ;)
Thanks very much. I'm glad you like it. Next one will be probably PSA..

Simply gorgeous Vilvoh. I'm wondering is there any sort of page wherein your creations are neatly organized? Like a page or something?
Thanks a lot. Mmm...I actually don't have a personal page. I've thought about it many times, but I'm quite lazy for that, and the blog it's not a proper place to host those stuff. So that's why almost all addons I've done are spread along the forum...even though, I usually try to make theme paks (trucks, planes, ships, extension buildings, engines, tourist attractions, etc...) so in that sense, we may say there's some order. I'm going to see if I can gather all in a megapak.
I'm still working on HKE Cargo Facility.. I had some problems because I didn't find a good texture for the building, and even now I'm not completly satified with it but the pixel-art arrangements improve the quality of the whole.

Final version of HKE Cargo Facility. 3x3, level 4 with winter version, special night colors and 4 rotations. I post some images. Enjoy with it!

P.S: Only missing the HKAA Mega-Terminal, and I'll come back to planes.
Oh my Goodness, this is just stunning. Makes me motivated to build more Airport chains.
BTW Vilvoh, i'm sorry for the n00bieness of this question but can you set the rotation of this (and the other one you made) or is it random? :-[ I've always wondered.
At this moment, it's not random. It depends on the stop and the side of the stop where you place the cursor when you're going to build the extension building. However, I think somebody is working on a patch that allows you to select which rotation do you want to use when you're building an extension building. Have a look at Development board for more info.
This already included in the nightly versions, look here:

I really like your buildings vilvoh :)
Thanks. I'll test it... ;)
Regarding the 747-400s, I'd just ask how to make the editing in the .dat files of the vehicles be effected in the game (I've edited some .dat files and copied it into the pak folder but the planes in the game still have the original attributes)?
thanks
In addition to modify the dat file, you need to recompile the pak file. The pak folder just contains pak files, files with pak extension that contains the images (png file) and the attributes (dat file) of the object.
To sum up, do the following:
- get the dat file and modify it as you want.
- get the png file related with that object.
- use makeobj to recompile the object with with the new attributes, and obtain a new pak file
- Finally, put it in the pak folder and check if all is right.

After a loong break, I'm back to this topic. I'm trying to finish the last freight terminal (HKAA Large Cargo Terminal). It's really huge and needs some extra details. Meanwhile, I've started another terminal that will deal with p****engers and freights. It's based on 1930 old Gatwick airport terminal.
(http://www.postimage.org/aV26UTGS.png) (http://www.postimage.org/aV26UTGS.png)
I think some PT-board planes will not hurt:

1930 Gatwick terminal finished...no special night colors this time..
EDIT: I've uploaded the zip again as it was corrupted.
very nice p****ing you plan for 128
Two more terminals I'm working on, TBT Air cargo Terminal...

Very very nice.
Awwwww. where were you when they made simcity, hm?
I'm glad to have you around improving Simu instead ;D
Well, I was born only 5 years before the first Simcity was released so I think I was too young to take part in the development, although I made very good drawings (at least that was what mother said) ... :D
Another one that will be finished soon.. Hemisphere Air Cargo Terminal
(http://www.postimage.org/gxrnKp9.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gxrnKp9)
some aircraft for loading of cars?
I may consider it. Perhaps any from the Guppy family. After all, if there's a plane that can carry petrol/gas, why not other that can transport cars? but you'll have to wait until I finish the buildings.. :)
vilvoh thanks ;)
believe me, it will be very useful ;)
I know, because you're not the first person that makes such a request. I bet it will be as expected as the plane that can carry gas/oil (VTM Atlant)
how said the chavo of 8: it, it, it, (eso, eso, eso.) ;D ;D :D ;)
As Silver and some other requested, here you have two new planes that will be used for transporting cars: Lockheed C-5 Galaxy (
left) and AeroSpace Super Guppy 201 (
right)
(http://www.postimage.org/aV_uRSr.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aV_uRSr)

o.k. I like the AeroSpace Super Guppy 201, the difference is to identify positive the aircraft
TBT Air Cargo Terminal finished..
EDIT: Hemisphere Terminal finished too. Pavillion Air Cargo Terminal will be ready tomorrow.

The file was too large to attach it in the latest post, so I was forced to double-post. Pavillion Air cargo terminal ready for downloading... ;D
EDIT: C5 and a couple of Guppy's finished. There're two versions of Guppy, one for transporting cars and the other piece goods. The C5 only transports cars.
:o vilvoh thank you very much, I serve a lot of
Wow, vilvoh, those pic looks awsome!(north america here)
I never had chance to play air liners since I'm playing smaller map....
One day I want make full use in my game...
You can't complain Silver, because the planes capacity is really high (75-110 cars)...happy transporting ;D
Btw, watching the previous image, I've realized that we need a higher control tower, because it seems quite small in relation to the rest of big buildings, so I'll make some higher control towers for cargo terminals.
JAJAJA :D O.K.
GOOD WORK.
USINGGGGG!!!!!
I haven't made any helicopter yet, so here you have a preview of Boeing Vertol CH-47 Chinook (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-47_Chinook). If I have time enough I may create a small set with different color schemes (models 234LR, 234E, MLR and 234UT)1
(http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6419/50433459.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq5wDI9)
See the Chinook set in action..
(http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2649/16153324.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx9wf6i)
I like it, I want one ;D ;)
And now we need an extension request to allow for special VTOL aircraft type that can land directly on air stop tiles :D
Simple, you just need to trick and built a landing strip on a stop tile.
Don't you mean a stop tile on a landing strip?
And, do you mean my trick from the old forum?
The Boeing Chinook CH-47 set is finished. I must warn that the running cost is very tight, so be careful or it will loose money (not a lot, but hey! every credit is just as important!)
Thanks Vivoh, I've been waiting a long time for someone to do this. The one plane that we had was not able to carry anything other than a few crates. GOOD WORK!
Colin
Thanks, I'm glad you like it..I'll try to start working one some of the helicopters that are still on the list, to finish that part definetly, so the next ones will be Sikorsky-CH-54 skycrane and Mil Mi-6 hook, as always with several color schemes (if possible, of course)
Ain't Mil Mi-26 better to make, it can lift 8 tons more (Mi-6) and its about 20 years newer and the worlds largest helicopter (Mil Mi-12 is larger but just a demo).
Well, I usually try to make sets of objects, if there's enough info about them, so we may say that it's a Mil Mi set that would include several versions of the same model. Imho, It's the best solution to keep everybody happy, isn't it? .. ;D
A m****ive freight plane: Hughes H-4 Hercules
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hughes_H-4_Hercules
Or this:
Airbus A300-600ST
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Transporter
They're both contenders for the largest aircraft in the world I think :D
The A300-600ST is already on the list (some from the Beluga familiy too), and I must confess I thought to include the Hughes H-4 Hercules but I was not able to find a good blueprint, and after all it's just a prototype.
A preview of the last two helicopters from the list: Mil MI-6 and Sikorsky CH-54. The full version of the CH-54 will carry a container or similar depending on the kind of goods it can deal with (cars, wood, oil, etc..)
(http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8930/46758340.png) (http://www.postimage.org/)
Sikorsky CH-54 Skycrane ready to fly... :)
Many Thanks vilvoh, I've down loded it and will try it shortly.
You're welcome...I'm still finishing the Mi-6 series. I must say that the CH-54 is pretty well balanced, however the problem is that it has 7110 KW of power, and that's a lot to move just 24 units of piece goods. It's not the fastest but it accelerates extremely fast... ;D
EDIT: Thanks for the screenshot, Edson.
Perfect ! ;D
I've tried it and I like it. I have two questions. (These are not criticisms) 1. Is it possible to make it slightly larger? it looks a bit like a Dragonfly buzzing around. 2. Would it be difficult to make it behave like a Helicopter? as in vertical take off and landing. Please remember I'm clueless when it comes to programming, so I'm asking out of sheer ignorance.
I'm afraid that the size is the largest possible for helicopters at pak64 scale. I made a lot of test and If you paint it larger, it won't fit on the scale and will be larger than other bigger airships like the
CL-44 or the
ATL-98 Cavair. Perhaps it looks like a dragonfly by the shape it has when it's empty. When it's full, it carries a container, so it looks like a pregnant dragonfly.. ;D

This issue has been already discused
here (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=680.0) and at
the archive (http://archive.forum.simutrans.com/topic/01707.0/index.html). The conclusions we got were..
but there's a ray of hope..see the following quote from
Timothy. :)
P.S: I've added new helicopters to the To-DO list.
The Mil Mi-6x series are finished. They are between the Chinook and the CH-54...a capacity between 19 and 23 units, faster and heavier than Chinook and CH-54. They're more expensive than Chinook but cheaper than CH-54, and they have a service period of 30-40 years from 1962 to 2021.
Downloaded and installed. Many thanks, I will try them shortly.
I downloaded the VM-T plane, but it doesn't show up in my hangar. Was there a config tweak required, or an updated version of the plane's pak file available? What am I doing wrong?
I know there are tanker planes (though commercial transport usually uses ships) in real life, at least the refueling planes, so taking off and landing with liquid cargo should be possible... but the VM-T is the only plane I have heard of in simutrans that does it.
Thanks for all the vehicles. :)
Check out If you're playing with timeline. It has intro and retire dates. If you've the timeline enabled, it won't be available before and after these dates.
intro_year=1981
retire_year=1990
I've tested it with v102.2 with pak64 102 and it works.
Thank you. That was it. I feel stupid.
I went to get this one and Opera tells me it's corrupted. Could you reupload, please?
(everything you do is awesome, btw)
You were right. I've uploaded the zip again. Go to reply 101 (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=470.msg20489#msg20489), and enjoy with the terminal... ;)
Hey, vilvoh, I am enjoying your goods aircraft immensely, but I'm having a little problem (at least when playing with them in Simutrans Experimental). They take 30000 loading time, which I'm told in another thread is the default and means that it wasn't set in the pak files of the particular aircraft. This shakes out to over 12 hours of game time, and I don't think it takes that long to load 15-30 crates.
Would it be difficult for you to put a more reasonable/realistic loading time in the pak files so the aircraft will load faster in Experimental?
Either way, thanks again for all the great vehicles.
The problem might be that this feature only exists in ST Exp., not in Standard - and so far there's only one pakset supporting Exp.
True. However, I was given to understand that a pakset/pak author could add a line to the definition that specifies a loading time. Perhaps the experimental version should have an option to make them load like in standard, or adjust the default loading time?
If nobody else makes supporting paksets, I'm going to have to stop using the Ex branch. Too many problems stemming from features that are crippling by default.
Yes, but if compiled with standard makeobj, for Simutrans standard, it will still exhibit the same problematic behaviour in ST Experimental.
Only if the line is there and it is compiled with experimental makeobj it will have a different behaviour in ST Experimental. But IIRC suchlike pak files will not work in Simutrans standard.
So it seems, the author must add the line, compile twice with both makeobj versions, and offer both pak files ...
If you felt default loading time is not good, that is your problem.
I don't know Simutrans-Experimental can adjust default loading time with simuconf.tab or not.
If it is possible, you can adjust by yourself.
If it is not possible, ask jamespetts to add such option.
I just want to step in and say, just in case it would otherwise become a problem: This sounds a little... abrupt to my ear, but I'm sure z9999+ completely didn't intend this. (That is, it sounds like it could have been abrupt, but I know it's not)
So in case anyone misunderstands, I believe I can say another way to put this is: "This is a feature of Simutrans Experimental, not of Simutrans Standard. Simutrans Standard cannot be expected to change for Simutrans Experimental; thus, this should be addressed on the Simutrans Experimental side of things"
And probably, since I took the time to write this, everyone will understand the original intent... but I thought: Just in case. :)
(For the record: I think the original statement sounds open to interpretation, but I know he was not being rude; I'm clarifying for those that might not realize which way to interpret it :) )
Let me add some partially revolutionary information ;)
1) AFAICT these planes are not part of any pakset, only addon, so talking about "sets supporting exp" is not entirely accurate.
2) Their sources should be available (complete) on g.s.c in the respective folder (http://graphics.simutrans.com/thumbnails.php?album=23), since Vilvoh was really nice and actually put them there. The logical step is to grab all that material, modify to suit your needs and bake an exp-compatible version.
3) The level on which forward compatibility (exp→standard) works is the sources and nowhere higher in the chain. Thus the situation is somewhat painful for authors as they have to make two versions themselves, or expose everything.
1) True, but they do comprise a set in the generic sense. :)
2) That's a good idea.
3) Thank you for clearing that up. I agree that this is a bad situation, and it should not fall on the pak authors the way it does now.
So, the answer to my question is "Yes, it's difficult." and I withdraw the request.
Well, I must say that these planes have a large payload, most of them two or three times more payload than the biggest freight plane included in the official pak64 (If I'm not wrong It's a Beluga with 25 units) So it may take some time to load them.
On the other hand, I've read the other thread related with this topic at Simutrans Experimental board, and I must admit I didn't know STExp had that feature available. However, it's very difficult to make an addon compatible with such a different paksets, even more difficult when we are considering different simutrans versions. The balancing approach for STExp it's completly different from the Simutrans standard one.
Therefore, we can't talk about a set in the generic sense, as there're many different scenarios with a lot of possible variables to take into account. Sometimes it's feasible to develop an addon for several paksets, sometimes it's not. That's all.
Anyway, if you really want to play with this set using STExp, the sources are available (dat and png files) so you can modify them (seems that you only have to add just one attribute), remake the pak files and enjoy with the result.. :)
???
Perhaps unrelated, but if Simutrans could read dat+png instead of paks, half the compatibility would cease to be a problem...
I have baked some of your planes into an STE pak. Having done this, I realize I must look like a perfect fool. You are correct that most of them have significant capacities. I did not realize this since the ones that looked most interesting to me (and therefore the ones I downloaded and installed) were the small ones, like the helicopters. Yes, the large ones will have long load times, and in my rebake, I ended up giving some of them a much longer load time than the default, but what I was actually intending to reference (I'm veeeeeeery sorry for the confusion I caused) were the helicopters, which have small capacities suited to, e.g., an ink line, and therefore should have a quick turnaround.
On that note, I wish to thank you again copiously for providing these aircraft, and moreso for providing the PNGs and DATs. I downloaded the dat files part 1... is there somewhere I've missed looking for part 2 (or whatever set features the bulk of the helicopters)?
(attachment updated in reply #160)
It's my fault. I forgot to upload the dat files of the second part.
If you want to port them, I can send you the files. The second set of dat files is available at
graphics.simutrans.com (http://graphics.simutrans.com/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0).
P.S: Thanks for the STExp port.
Thank you for making the sources available. Here is the updated pak zip with the xv-dats included inside.
P.S., it occurred to me my filename might be unclear... the flying crates refers to the crates of goods, not to the aircraft themselves, which are of extremely high quality. :)
@VS: What I meant by that was it was unreasonable for me to ask vilvoh to remake the pak for exper branch because it's not exactly a trivial thing, especially if he doesn't play with the exper branch.
I've been working on new helicopters from the Sikorsky family, in this case they're S-51 and S-55. I've about five color schemes for each model, so be prepared for a big set.. ;D
(http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/9140/sikorskypre.th.png) (http://img691.imageshack.us/i/sikorskypre.png/)
Another two ones: A long copter called Piasecki-H21 and a german plane from WWII called Horten IX V1 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horten_Ho_229). It's going to be a futuristic plane for mail.. ;D
(http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/5968/piaseckyh21pre.png) (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/piaseckyh21pre.png/) (http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/7678/hortenixv1pre.png) (http://img211.imageshack.us/i/hortenixv1pre.png/)
P.S: Ops! I forgot to add the engines to the Horten IX V1 model.. :::)
The Piasecki set is almost finished. In addition to that, I had time to work in several new airport buildings like this one base on the future Beijing Airport Terminal..

Would it be possible to render some of those PNG's for pak128 then downscale them. Because then it could be developed for both.
I may try it, but let me finish the pak64 version first.. ;)
Okay.
PS: Are you using something like blender or paint?
I use Blender and GIMP
Okay. So what if you lined them up in GIMP for pak128. Then downscaled them to work with pak64. The only other thing you'd have to do would be make the pak128 DAT file.
PS: If it's okay with you i could make the pak128 DAT files if you do that. I would put your name under copyright.
I use 3D models, rather easy to rescale, which means I can render (generate) the pak64 image, then rescale the model and render again in pak128 scale. I only use GIMP to fix small details before releasing the object. Anyway, I'm still making some test to find out which is best layout for Dragon Imperial Terminal..
PS: we can share the copyright of pak128 version.. ;)
Okay. That would work. I think that that layout would work but with a little piece on one end where p****engers would enter from a bus or train or something. Like the place in an airport before p****ing through security.
What I have in mind is to code the central part as an airstop and the arms of the terminal can be extension buildings, or the other way round.
I was thinking something like the attached photo. Where the small blocks are like the stuff you've already made and the Huge terminal hall is like the part before security. It's just a suggestion though.
EDIT: I attached a corrupted photo apparently. I'm going to re-upload.
That's exactly the idea. Take a look at the building in real life..

EDIT: I've already finished the tests and the result is top notch, isn't it? ;D

Those look great! I just see a few bugs. There are a couple of alignment issues with the centre piece and the exterior ones. And on the front end pieces it looks like there's a grayish wall behind and underneath it. I understand that underneath it is mean't to be there though.
While I fix the alignment issues, add colors and textures, I've finished a couple of freight planes sets that where pending since long time ago: Piasecki-H21 and Ilyushin IL-76. Enjoy with the fly! ;D
Another set, this time Sikorsky S51 with HSO3, RSA and RSF models. It's a small but profitable helicopter.
Thanks, again, vilvoh.
The last one pending, Sikorsky S55 set with five different models.
Nice planes! I downloaded a few before I signed up, but then I switched over to the simutrans Expiremental and It wouldn't accept my pak64 files. It gave me a Fatal Error.
Did you try the repak'd paks or only vilvoh's originals?
I'm afraid these planes aren't prepared to be supported by STExp. As skreyola made some post before, you must modify the dat files in order to make them compatible with it.
???
Darn it. I was hoping to be able to.
The biggest change is the New Physics Model. Most of the other things in experimental are added features -- so that you can use the source files for an experimental-ready pak with few changes and get a reasonable pak for standard, just without the features. But the physics model is a major change which requires complete alteration of the power numbers for every vehicle. If I had been thinking clearly about git back when the New Physics Model was introduced came out I would have tried to keep it on its own 'feature branch' to make it possible to merge into standard in the future. It may still be possible to reconstruct things to make that possible.
Anyway, as it is now, if you're willing to download makeobj-experimental, it's not that hard to rebuild an experimental-compatible .pak file from the .dat and .png files. And .dat files are easy enough to change.
Okay. Recent changes to STE would seem to make both versions of the goods planes paks not work. I haven't made a repak since the changes, and before, the originals should have worked, just taken three forevers to load.
I haven't had a chance to do anything for STE lately, and I no longer play it, so I don't know if I will again.
