Title: Signalling question
Post by: fredp on August 27, 2010, 02:46:33 pm
Hi, I need soom help with signals.

I have this layout:

I have a suburban line arriving from A1, heading to S3 through the single track (red) and then going back to A2.
Interregional trains instead travel A1->B1 and B2->A2 stopping at S1 and some also at S3.

My problem is avoinding trains to get stuck on the single track between S1 and S3: this happens for example if a trains traverls to S3 when the two platforms are busy.

Which signals should I use?
Consider please that for space reasons I cannot add another platform to S2.

Thank you very much.

I would remove that second platform on the single line at S3 and add a one way long block signal (I think you can do with a pre-signal) facing towards S2, between S1 and the switch before S2. On the opposite side of the switch, where the single line starts, add a two-way regular signal.

At S1 and S3, remove any choose platform signals. Route the suburban line coming from A1 to the top platform, then route the train like normal to S2 and, a now 3 platform, S3. In the reverse direction, route the suburban line to the bottom platform of S1, then send it off to A2.

If the second platform on the single line at S3 is there, because it's for loading cargo or something, then simply do not place a platform choose signal in front of it and do not run more than one cargo train.

either that, or put S2 on the main line and merge all S3 platforms so that they can be used by a choose platform signal.

very simple, this is what I would do :
(place the stop at S1 for the green schedule train heading to S3 otherwise it could take the wrong way and ignore the long block signal).
I simplified the picture.

Ok, thanks! I did something like this. Actually S1 has 5 platforms, and a choosesignal on both sides on the black tracks, so trains coming back from S2 will have to wait for their platform to become free.
