James,
I know we have discussed this matter before, but I am still wrestling with to high a towngrowth.
Results from my last experiment:
Settings in Pak-config:
growthfactor_villages = 400
growthfactor_cities = 800
growthfactor_capitals = 1600
Milano in year 1750:
Start 790 inh. Jan 958, feb 1207, mar 1424, apr 1454, may 1524, jun 1794, jul 2014, aug 2042, sep 2071, oct 2216, nov 2390, dec 2429
So in 1 year number of inhabitants tripled.
Since I do not know the formulas I have no idea what values to use in order to get a growthfactor_capitals for a long scenario (300 years)
10K inh in 1750 with growth of 3%/year gives in 2050 70 Mil inh.
Should I use for capitals 160000 i.s.o. 1600, or even better 300000

Hmm - that's odd, since I don't see town growth of anything like that. Can you upload a saved game?
James,
Uploaded a sve-file in simutrans-germany.com
I made some tryal run with different town_growth_factors:
Factors 40000/80000/160000 >> 1750/0 1812 inh 1750/12 1812 inh so no growth at all
Factors 4000/8000/16000 >> 1750/0 1317 inh 1750/12 1317 inh so no growth at all
Factors 2000/4000/8000 >> 1750/0 310 inh 1750/12 314 inh little growth
Second town >> 1750/0 306 inh 1750/12 311 inh same little growth
Factors 1500/3000/6000 >> 1750/0 655 inh 1750/12 655 inh no growth at all
Second town >> 725 725 no growth at all
Factors 1200/2400/3600 >> 1960 1960 0 growth
Second town >> 539 541 allmost 0 growth
Factors 1000/2000/3000 >> 639 928 ~ 50% (to much)
Second town >> 306 457 ~ 50% "
Factors 400/800/1600 >> 733 1181 + 50% "
Factors 1100/2200/3300 >> 541 694 ~ 20% From 1751 - 1757 979 inh ~10%
Based on this outcome settings in my next scenario will be 1150-1600/2200
