Journey time tolerance in early years September 20, 2010, 09:04:45 pm I started a game c. 1840 and am finding that there's essentially /no/ p****enger traffic being generated, even . Can I edit the journey time tolerance (like the speed bonuses, changing with era) or is it hard-coded? Quote Selected
Re: Journey time tolerance in early years Reply #1 – September 20, 2010, 10:31:44 pm TygerFish,I ****ume that you are using Pak128.Britain-Ex? Values such as the journey time tolerances can be altered by changing the values in simuconf.tab (the pakset version will over-ride values in the general version). This will, however, only affect games created after you made the changes: saved games will be unaffected. For existing games, there is a feature that will allow you to change the values using a graphical interface, but it does not work in 8.2 (attempting to use it will result in corruption of the values and even potentially a game that, when saved, can never be loaded again). The forthcoming 9.0 release will allow this feature to work more fully.Turning to the economic issue, this is a matter that I am currently investigating. So far, I have found that the number of p****engers travelling between different towns is much lower in Experimental than Standard in all eras. I am not sure that this is a matter just of journey time tolerances, but I have not yet finalised my investigations, which have been more difficult than I had initially anticipated. There is a fuller discussion of these issues in this thread, including an explanation of why it would not be a good idea to have the journey time tolerance vary depending on the era. So far, my test setup has been to increase the p****enger factor to 20, reduce the factory workers percentage to 15 and the tourist percentage to 7, set the proportion of local p****engers to 39 and mid-range p****engers to 38%, and increase the maximum number of alternative destinations to 5. This has moved things in the right direction, but numbers are still low. My investigations continue, albeit my free time is limited.Meanwhile, if you, or anyone else, would like to conduct your own investigations, do feel free to do so, as it would be very helpful, either using 8.2, or, if you can compile it from source, the latest code from the 9.x branch on Github. Thank you again for your report :-) Quote Selected
