How to use addons to update trains etc ..... December 07, 2009, 09:22:08 pm I am new to Simutrans and at the moment I have both the latest PAK and PAK.128.Britain, I have downloaded lots of addon PAKS but cannot appear to get them to work on either PAK. Your help would be greatly appreciated as I find this the best rail simulation game I have ever played. Quote Selected
Re: How to use addons to update trains etc ..... Reply #1 – December 07, 2009, 10:10:31 pm You need to make sure you have the .pak files for the add-ons in the pakXXX folder of the pak you want to play the add-ons with. So if you want the add-ons in pak128, put the .paks in the pak128/ folder. Similarly if you want them with pak128.Britain, put them in the pak128.Britain/ folder. Then, as long as they are the right size graphics (i.e. 128x128 scale in your case) then they will work. Quote Selected
Re: How to use addons to update trains etc ..... Reply #2 – December 08, 2009, 07:19:36 am Tip: I use the nightlies, so I upgrade a lot. When I do, because I never know what files might change/conflict, I always create a new directory (in fact, specifically, I have a Simutrans folder set up under my profile directory; I save all downloaded files there, and unzip them to a folder by the same name as the archive).I have folders containing addons for pak64 (which I call "!pak64-addons", for example) and pak128 (don't use any addons for any other pak atm)...So when I upgrade, I:1. Download the new exe2. Download the new pak versions3. Extract the exe, and the paks - all into their own folders4. Copy the pak folders to the appropriate spot5. Copy the addons to the appropriate spots6. Create a new shortcut to the Simutrans exe (I always add "-freeplay -nomidi -nosound") and drag it to my Quick Launch bar and remove the old icon there...just in case this helps someone else.
