What's Eletricity Output?

I play Simutrans for a while, but I still don't understand what Eletricity Output do, can anyone here explain for me?
I tried doing some test but i got nothing.
I wish to know what's affected, how it works and what I need to do on the game to use it.

EDIT:Almost forgot: It's the option on New Map Dialog

That's two different things.

On the New Map dialogue - that's the percentage of industry chains that will be electricity.

For instance, if you have 12 industries, and 25% electricity, that should generate 9 non-electric chains, and 3 electric chains.

The short story on how to use electricity in the game: Say you have, for example, a coal power plant. You will see it will have connections to coal mines - transport coal to it.

Then you can build a transformer beside the power plant, another transformer by some factory, and connect the two transformers with power lines. You will make some money for the electricity that will flow - and the target factory will have some increased production.

One power plant might power 1-4 factories, I don't remember the ratio, because I don't normally use the electricity...

Factories have a given throughput limit, and they need to be supplied with all their input materials (if any) to manufacture their products. Markets and power plants are special in that they only consume goods. Consumption and electricity/power output of a power plant doubles with each transformer added to it. Supplying electricity (from power plants) allows you to double the consumption/production limit of any given factory (except power plants) on land (your choice, which ones). You can see the numbers and goods types in the factory details window.

Actually the settings in the new world dialog (should be like "electric production" or is otherwise wrongly translated) give the total electric power generated in relation to the total production sum of all factories. So if you have five cahins with together 10000 units of production (this number in the factory info dialoge) then there will be electricity chains built until the total 3333 units or electricity production is met.
