Mega-City August 16, 2010, 03:37:21 am Hello all,This is just messing around with the city building. But without "cheating" (juste starting on a flat land 512x512 with no trees) I managed to pull a big 16,000 credits each month with only one small city of 2'700 citizens (no goods). Here is basically how I did it : While I am here... how exactly does monuments build themself ? Generally at this point there is some monuments in the city, but I have none actually. Does it need a free space around the city or it is lost ? how exactly around ? hehe. Quote Selected

Which monuments when are built is different for each pak, the pak designer can also use a random chance factor to see which monument is built. Quote Selected
Re: Mega-City Reply #2 – August 16, 2010, 03:16:06 pm Yes, but where ? An attraction is built on the next free spot of a connected route. But monument seems to follow another set of rules. Maybe it as to be in the city limit ? what happen to them when there is no room ? Quote Selected
Re: Mega-City Reply #3 – August 16, 2010, 07:17:54 pm Monuments seem to have the ability to build outside any sort of connection to the main city - and I think (I may be wrong) that they do not increase teh city limit size - becasue I'll see monuments built outside the city, and the city won't expand on them... the city will remain trapped. Re: Mega-City Reply #4 – August 16, 2010, 08:47:16 pm Monuments are sort of like babies. When they want out, they're coming no matter where it is. Well, the only exception seems to be when there is no room at all. Quote Selected
Re: Mega-City Reply #5 – August 16, 2010, 08:54:20 pm I wonder if it would be worth it to put in an extension request for an option to have monuments increase the city borders? It might be useful to help stuck cities escape... Quote Selected
Re: Mega-City Reply #6 – August 16, 2010, 10:01:43 pm just plant some houses, commercial or industrial city buildings (not chain industries), outside the city boarder along a road as public player.Cities grow in either size or density depending on the situation and it's normally size if there are roads with empty spaces available. If the city is locked in by rails or similar, planting a city building outside the barrier will 'break the ice' and allow the city to expand beyond the barrier.Of course, you have to be able to switch to public player to do this. Re: Mega-City Reply #7 – August 16, 2010, 11:01:46 pm As game design point of view, having to have to change to public player is little turn off.As now we have ability as a player company to buy city buildings, may be we could buildsmall city building to expand the city limit? It could be simple terrain or 0 level residentialor what ever. Maybe better some kind of marker thing to expand city limit. There could besome cost attached to it.(also, being able to turn off on city growth is bit bizarre. better be controlled by publicplayer or randomly designate some cities grow slower than other(for few decades withdate which could be specified). although, this is rather trivial for now.) Re: Mega-City Reply #8 – August 17, 2010, 02:36:31 am you can always penalize yourself by using the build trench artificial slope tool on water. It's the easiest way to loose money, aside from building a long bridge, then deleting it. Quote Selected

I think the triggers are : 1) on a connected route 2) inside what _could_ be the city limit. Or maybe it is pak dependent ? That's why I ask the question. That's why I ask... we think but we don't really know. Quote Selected

That's why I ask... we think but we don't really know. All I know is that I have, many times, seen cities that were unable to expand; they still grew, and monuments appeared outside the city's apparently city limits. Many many monuments might be built, but the city never expands on the roads that the monuments build. As far as the underlying cause, I don't know. Only that whatever is going on, cities appear to me never to expand on monuments if they are already locked.I'll run another quick experiment to see, now...Huh. After some experimentation, I cannot replicate this now. I wonder if something has changed in the past few months on it... Quote Selected
