Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #1 – January 28, 2010, 09:56:30 pm Looking good. Is it based on anything in particular? My two traction engines were fairly generic types. Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #2 – January 29, 2010, 03:56:35 pm Some progress with project.Piece and cooled goods trailers are ready and was wondering if those bulk cargo images are textures or hand drawn.I used Fowler B4 as inspiration for graphics. http://www.steam-up.co.uk/fowler/fowler_bh6971.htmbtw there are 2 carts in svn with intro year 13750 http://simutrans.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/simutrans/pak128.Britain/bus/carts.dat Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #3 – January 30, 2010, 11:56:57 am Nice work. The bulk cargo images are rendered from blender (as is just about everything else, with some minor exceptions). If you are using blender and want any of the parts I used, just ask and I can send you the blender files. Thanks for the cart bug report. I'm sure someone has reported that before, but obviously I never got round to fixing it! Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #4 – January 30, 2010, 06:07:08 pm Todays huge contribution long goods wagon (cargo image todo).http://www.saunalahti.fi/jusskiiv/vehicle.BlackJack.pak.zipIf you got textures for cargo it would help lot with bulk goods wagon. Quote Selected

Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #6 – January 31, 2010, 10:41:09 pm Those trailers look a little large, but otherwise good. Here is a blend file for a bulk wagon:http://files.[ simutrans [dot] us (site down, do not visit) ]/files/get/z2LD9sr-lh/eagle-wagons-bulk.blend Quote Selected

Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #8 – February 01, 2010, 05:13:47 pm I rendered every piece again. Wagons are now little smaller. Bulk wagons still missing.http://www.saunalahti.fi/jusskiiv/vehicle.BlackJack.pak.zipUpdate: Bulk wagon ready. Quote Selected Last Edit: February 01, 2010, 08:57:03 pm by Archon
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #9 – February 02, 2010, 09:11:34 am Not sure what's happened in the re-rendering, but the wheels on the engine look different now to in the earlier pictures - they all have really black wheels now which doesn't looko so good IMHO. Apart from that, excellent! Quote Selected

Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #11 – February 04, 2010, 08:07:54 pm I have tested this in game and I have some comments before inclusion in official releases:1) Size: both engine and trailer look too large in comparison with existing engines - see attached screenshot.2) I think power and capacity are over-rated at present for game balance. I'd suggest reducing power closer to the large traction engine, and the capacity of each trailer to 8. Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #12 – February 05, 2010, 01:29:50 pm Yes it is bigger and more powerful than heavy traction engine(that was the idea).I did some testing and think it would be ok with 10ton wagons 14Kw and intro date 1891.Those values would be consistent with other traction engines. year max load speed power weightLTE 1857 6t 15Km/h 6KW 5tHTE 1876 12t 20Km/h 9KW 7tBJ 1891 20t 22Km/h 14Kw 11tAll feedback welcome also for how should I name these on final version. Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #13 – February 05, 2010, 01:40:13 pm I know it is supposed to be larger than the existing Heavy Traction Engine, but it is noticably larger than even some of the trucks and buses. I recommend scaling it down. Are you basing your data on anything in particular? The heavy traction engine was already intended to cover the more powerful end of the traction engine range, rather than mid-range... Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #14 – February 05, 2010, 02:35:57 pm It is based on that machinehttp://www.steam-up.co.uk/fowler/fowler_bh6971.htmIt is Fowler B4 type engine. Stated power 8 nhp. 1nhp should be equal to about 3 - 4 KW. There is little actual performance data for these and I have no idea how fast these did go.Most powerful traction engine I have seen has stated power of 310hp. Constructed by Ottomeyer, Germany in 1958. http://www.prestonservices.co.uk/traction.htm Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #15 – February 05, 2010, 02:44:54 pm Fair enough then, I think the powers can stay. But I'd still rather the graphics were smaller (not as small as the existing engines, but much closer to that size). Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #16 – February 05, 2010, 03:38:45 pm Do you think that engine should be shorter or just thinner?I will make wagons 20% smaller later today or tomorrow. Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #17 – February 05, 2010, 03:45:33 pm Probably scale the whole thing down - 20% sounds reasonable. The proportions are good, just a bit super-size! Quote Selected
Re: Black jack traction engine Reply #18 – February 06, 2010, 11:53:54 am Now it is ~20% smaller. Quote Selected
