Simutrans needs something funny October 21, 2010, 08:46:45 pm May it be that this topic should be opened inside board of any pakset. I think that Simutrans is too serious. So it needs something ?funny - no vehicles or factories but goods. I know that searching for something such what could be neutral (and not from denied chains) too would be very difficult but it should be done.... and forum needs something funny too ...While jokes can be misunderstood (understood wrong), one topic with jokes could be established. Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #1 – October 21, 2010, 09:31:38 pm Simutrans has a lot of funny translations of buildings. Usually I regularly delete boring english ones, but serious ones and single word like ones reappear. Quote Selected
Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #2 – October 21, 2010, 10:04:01 pm I always try to translate things in a funny way. Or at least in a beauty way.I'm translating pak96.comic and always trying to add a cool phrase. Also you can try finding something to add at Simutrans to be funny. Maybe we can take a look at SimCity 4 and find something interesting. SC4 to me is funny. Quote Selected
Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #3 – October 21, 2010, 11:09:56 pm I was making something along those lines.tourist attraction that generates 1 pax, 1 mail and is sized to... oh, maybe 6x6I wanted to make a series of 'uselessly large' buildings you'd encounter in a dream Quote Selected

Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #5 – October 22, 2010, 08:13:02 am Some paks are meant to be very serious, I think particularly pak.German was meant as a heavy economic simulation. But generally I like the idea of humorous and funny events in the game. Although I'm clueless how to make that. The translations are sure good, the speed records were also a good idea. The only other thing I can come up with, are sort of news like SimCity 2000 had them - a newspaper sort of dialog that pops up now and then, and shows more or less serious stories about events in the game's world. I also prepared one quite funny translation for one building (for greenhouse from pak128.Britain ... I transferred into my game) - of course, for Czech language (and only for myself). But they cannot be bothersome. For this some chains could be prepared - they would not be quite funny, they can be only happy - for example in style of the fourth cl**** of scenarios of TTD.Quote from: IgorEliezer – on October 22, 2010, 01:56:27 am(fact: some few months ago we released a "Silly Avatar of Month: May I have a hat?".)I know about this. For this reason I wrote about topic of jokes - may be photo-jokes - for example unintentional arrangement? of tables ... like in czech city called Náchodbut this can be understood probably only by Czech (or Slovak) speaking people - else magic of unintentional is going away.Quote from: Hajo – on October 22, 2010, 08:13:02 amSome paks are meant to be very serious, I think particularly pak.German was meant as a heavy economic simulation.1. Why heavy economic simulation could not include any chain like ginger-bread bakery and ginger-bread house? Of course, including farm of ginger - and other factories producing raw materials - honey, sugar, flour ... and so on. Quote Selected Last Edit: October 22, 2010, 09:18:16 am by VaclavMacurek
Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #7 – October 22, 2010, 09:28:04 am I wanted to say, it looks alright to me that some paks keep a serious line, and the others go more humoristic. Not every pak needs to be humoristic. Also, this gives players a choice, if they want something more serious or not.pak.german seemed to be one of the more serious ones to me. It's not that I particularly think it has to be this way - it just already looked to me this way, so I used it as example. In general I agree that Simutrans needs more funny elements. Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #8 – October 22, 2010, 01:15:49 pm I tend to find humour in games..... tiresome.SimCity's old newspapers are a great example - after a while, you've seen them all, and then they're just old.On the other hand, don't take that as anti-humour. I'm all for more silliness... but I like how it's out of the way (I hardly ever click on building descriptions).I wouldn't mind seeing some add-on industry chains; but I think, for the most part, it's better to keep humour out of the core, for the most part. But more importantly: As with everything else: Anyone who creates content can create it however they like. If people like it, they'll use it. And I'm all for it! :-)Quote from: IgorEliezer – on October 22, 2010, 01:56:27 amI thought one Isaac is enough. :<Never enough! hehehehe Quote Selected
Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #9 – October 22, 2010, 03:15:04 pm suggestion: pak britain seriously needs a scrap-yard with a large blue box as a city building.a good example already implemented somewhere: a certain city car only appearing first in 1984 and later in 1955. Quote Selected

Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #11 – October 22, 2010, 11:34:08 pm there's always the possibility of making a scenario.Like doing santa's work and delivering lumps of coal to everyone.or maybe making the red ones go faster.I think it's hard to cater to everyone in multiple languages when things can get lost in translation. Of course, that goes to show how creative the translators can be. Quote Selected
Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #12 – October 23, 2010, 12:50:56 am Maybe this may be oftopic but it would be cool that there can occur earthquakes, tornado like Simcity and you then need to fix your roads Quote Selected
Re: Simutrans needs something funny Reply #13 – October 23, 2010, 02:03:25 am Maybe add some special funny buildings that you can unlock by doing some things, like have a 20 trains network with some profit. And also a cheat to unlock it right away. Quote Selected

And disasters and accidents will (luckily, IMO) never be part of simutrans as you can see here. Quote Selected Last Edit: October 23, 2010, 12:05:59 pm by DirrrtyDirk
