Nowadays? I thought it always pointed to north

No, 3000 years ago it was slightly off north and in 3000 years it will be slightly off again. In a few 1000 years another star might point to the north. Just be patient  ;) .

Simutrans Monthly Screenshot Contest Archive / Re: SMSC October Edition: Bus stations and hubs
As we seem to be a bit low on participants I have made screenshot as well:

http://www.combuijs.nl/fotoos/lamasbusstation.png

Pak128 - The Bus hub of the city of Lamas

The city of Lamas is positioned on a small peninsula. The bus hub of Lamas East not only services local busses and mailcars from the city going over the famous Red Gate bridge, but also provides connections to regional factories and attractions. High speed trains will bring you to the capital of Colesborne, while Lamas Ferries provides a special connection with the Great Parnsea Oilrig.

I think this had been discussed before: h ist the international symbol for the time unit, so it is supposed to be used in every language.

I have never seen that discussion. But you are probably right. I have just checked. When I drive too fast on our national highways  :-[ the police always tells me the speed in km/h (and let me pay in Euros...).

Edit: translation changed for the n-th time...

@Combuijs
I PM whoami that's why he commented, also your translation on Simutranslator have an "Enter"(New line) after the translation, that gives double \n on NL.tab what makes LOCO_CAP (capacity) stay out of dialog.

I might be missing something here, but the English and German translation do also end with \n. Or do you mean that I accidently put a genuine new line (by using the Enter-key) extra in it? In that case, I have just tried to repair that.

It could also be a nice addition for the Simutrans-maps section.

The sizes of savegames (this one is 23 MB) is way too big to be put on the maps website. The webspace is kindly provided by Hellmade for free, but there are certain limitations in the amount of space I can use.

NL: seems OK to me.

Almost  ;)

%s\nPrijs : %d$ (%1.2f$/km)\nVermogen: %dkW\nTopsnelheid %dkm/u\nGewicht: %dt\n

would be better (Top added).

If you had not commented, I would not have seen the Dutch translation!

Edit: And km/h -> km/u. Also changed in Simutranslator.

Do you need a post office to transport mail, or just mail vehicles going between large bus stops?

Both:

1) All stops involved should be mail-enabled. This can be done by placing mailboxes or post offices. (Look at the station info dialog; if the station is mail-enabled you will see a small envelop. If you look at the menu bar you will see those tiny envelopes on some of the icons: those stops or buildings will enable mail).

2) You need mail vehicles going between the stops.

Simutrans-Extended development / Re: Problem with growing Towns
1) Transport as many p****engers as you can. "Red" stations within city limits hamper your growth. P****engers not able to travel to other places will also hamper your growth. Don't forget to bring p****engers to attractions and factories.

2) Transport as much mail as you can. Don't forget to bring mail to attractions and factories.

3) Transport as much goods as you can.

4) Be patient. In real life it takes 9 months  ;) .

Simutrans Help Center / Re: 4 corner interconnection with Air+Train+Bus
P****engers will take the journey with the least transfers. If the number of transfers of two routes is equal then one of these routes is chosen. The distance of the route is never taken into account.

So

Quote
it seems that p****enger prefer to make more trips on shorter distant than a single long one

is definitely not true.

Simutrans-Extended development / Re: Problem with growing Towns
When you start Simutrans, you will see a button "settings". If you click that button you get a dialog. Choose tab "Economy and cities" and scroll down to

growthfactor_villages
growthfactor_cities
growthfactor_capitals

They are default on 400, 200 and 100.

If they are 10000 then no growth will take place.

Simutrans Help Center / Re: Save map with rivers?
Yeah, that's one of my dreams.

1) Adding cities to the heightmap including number of inhabitants, this could be independant of pak
2) Adding rivers to the heightmap, but this would very likely depend on pak
3) Adding factories and attractions to the map, including factory linkage, but this would certainly be pak-dependant

I have ideas how I would like to implement this (about the same format as makeobj uses), but no time to work on it. And the real developers are very busy with network functionality. But maybe one day...

Perhaps this is what a scenario would be?

No, a scenario works on a savegame and states a purpose (like getting a certain sum of money).

Simutrans Help Center / Re: Year-Mode problem
Depends on the pak you are using. For example Pak64 can be modified, pak128 has both an open version and a closed version, and pak96.comic can not be changed without permission.

Simutrans Help Center / Re: industry trains
My order of preference would be pak128, pak128.britain, pak64.german, pak64. They have lots of different industries and have good trains to cater for them. Others may have other preferences though.

What we will gain if someone develop pak.32767?

We will gain an awful lot of pixels !  :D

And we could handle a serious decrease in dots per inch on monitors of course...

While I am here... how exactly does monuments build themself ?

Monuments are built when a city has reached a certain number of inhabitants. Which monuments when are built is different for each pak,  the pak designer can also use a random chance factor to see which monument is built.

It took me a while to understand your remark, DirrrtyDirk (and that's my fault, not yours!), but you are absolutely right. There should be no connection between the two upper platforms and the two lower platforms of every station.

Since we are on topic, industry chains are popping out way too fast for my tastes. I remember that there is a parameter in simuconf that changes that, but I can't find it.

No, it is in cityrules.tab. It's called industry_increase_every.

Quote
Also, if I set it now, will it affect my current game?

That I don't know. Probably not, but I'm not sure. Try to turn industry growth off, fast forward and see what happens.

Quote
Is there a way to turn off the industry growth at all?

Yes, industry_increase_every = 0

Two years ago, I played on a version of simutrans where multiple trains could use the signle track without the need for any signals.

As far as I know such a version never existed (or it must be more than 6 years ago). Although signalling can be very complex, in your case it very simple. On the end of every double track (note: not quadruple track) you put in a one way platform-choose signal. With end I mean the end of the intended travel direction. If those double track parts are very long you can put in extra normal one way signals (in the same direction of course). Don't make the quadruple track very long though (maximum about 50 tiles).
