I'm making this tourist attraction based in something I saw sometime ago in a pixel art forum. It's a pair of aliens that have had an accident. The army is the first to arrive there. It'll be desert climate only.
EDIT: preview updated
I'm sure there isn't any directive "no aliens in Simutrans". And it isn't much of a military, only a green jeep… approved :)
Mulder and Scully have copyright so I didn't have more options..in earlier sketches, there was an army helicopter, but I remove it because it took a lot of space. It's based on Roswell incident.
P.S: There are not soldiers because they've been abducted... ::)
Pfff.... too late. I was about to post saying:
"Where is the tourist attraction you said? I'm not seeing any. By change, has it been abducted?"
;D
I've updated the preview. Now the aliens glow, the impact crater is more dirty and I've added the desert ground texture. I've corrected lights position, too.
Are you aware of the fact that you can cut the two aliens from base image, put them into FrontImage[]=*blahblah and have them glow whatever color you choose, apart from the special ones? Or at least theoretically it should be possible.
Yes, that was my idea.... ;D
And did it work?
I always talk about this but never tried it ;)
May I make a suggestion?
I think this add-on would fit better in pak96.comic.
I haven't tried yet. Anyway, I don't remember if there are big buildings animated (2x2 or larger)
:-\.... I'm not sure. It has no comic style, but is true that it's quite informal. Let me finish it and we'll see.
It reminds me of some graphical errors I had when I made future.pak and the saucer ship flew through some buildings.
I like it.
I know. I know that graphic style is not a comic's one. But I was talking about its theme.
Well, this might demostrate that we're not alone in Simutrans world..
I still have to polish some details, but you can see it in action on this short video (the music was an obvious choice... ::))
http://es.youtube.com/watch?v=NzY0t5hTZxU
Yes, I knew what I was going to hear even before I clicked - hell, I was actually already
whistling it, before I clicked. ;)
While I finish the UFO incident, I have time to create this Poseydon temple. The design is not mine, is from a pixel-art website. I used GIMP to create the water effect, but the final version will be in 3D. I have to fix some textures and add a fence, too.
UFO incident, renamed to Close Encounters of the First Kind, finished... Its chance and p****engers level are not very high, therefore it won't be very common. I don't want to see any alien invasion in Simutrans.. :)
Yes, although we might need poseidon's help, sometimes, for an extension request made before, ;) IMHO. :)
BTW, Good Job, with these add-ons, vilvoh. :) Although this time, I'm a bit late in seeing them (November -> January). ::)
We already know that we're not alone in Simutrans universe, but now it's time to put in contact with them. That's the reason why
SimuSeti project was created, and this is its radio-telescope, called "
The Big Ear".
(http://www.postimage.org/Pq11_9HA.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq11_9HA)
It's based on an addon I saw at Simcity forum, but adapted to Simutrans. I've to fix the scales and add the details to buildings (
windows, roofs, etc..) and ground (
trees, people, roads, security fences, etc..) but until now, the result is better than I expected.. ;D
Well done! :)
Is similar to that in Brazil.
I have bad memory jijiji, this excellent your addon..
I missed the UFO incident when it was posted, but I want to say I like the idea :)
And the "big ear" radiotelescope it great, too!
Another work in progress: Kingsbrigde Cathedral from the famous novel "
Pilars of the Earth"
(http://www.postimage.org/Pq1Pbbv0.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1Pbbv0)
EDIT: image updated to v0.4
Quite impressive :)
Thanks Hajo. After reading the novel I became a big fan of the author, and I also though it was a good opportunity to replace the original cathedral that appears at pak64, which if I remember correctly was painted by Raven, wasn't it? In addition, It was going to be my two cents for the pak128.Britain project... The image that inspires this object is this wallpaper (http://www.ken-follett.com/images/pote/800x600/Pillars_06_800x600.jpg)
Ah, it's a pity we don't have pak512 to show off all the detail you'd have to add for such a pak... hehehe
(nevermind only seeing a few tiles on the screen - it'd be beautiful! hehe)
The 2x2 cathedral in 64 is made from photo of some famous real world building... can't remember anymore which one it is though. Hajo could tell us ;)
Sounds like a good idea. The old image never really fit well into Simutrans, and the new cathedral will be a nice replacement. the idea of having photorealistic images never really took off, better to go with the style that most existing buildings have.
I think I'll use the new cathedral for pakHajo.Evolution too, once you tell it's ready :)
The dat file,
cur-city.dat (http://simutrans.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/simutrans/pak64/cur/), at the SVN doesn't say anything about who owns the copyright... :-\

I'm still working on details of the Cathedral, meanwhile I've done these size tests for other paksets.
(http://www.postimage.org/PqIZTFS.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqIZTFS)
WOW great. You are a master!
What do I have to pay if I need a few industries? ;D
Thanks for the praises. I'm glad you like it.. :)
It will be free because I have a lot of industries in my to-do list, and probably all will be included in the future pak64.industry pakset I'm working on with Rainer and some people more.
That's good news :) I have ideas for one or two more industry chains for pakHajo.Evolution, and I'll need some factories and shops, so there is hope to be able to borrow from your work once ready.
Well, right now we are just making plans. Then, we surely ask for suggestions.
As the forum still has problems with attachments, I've taken a break, but today I've come back to work on the pending projects, so here you've the work in progress of Kingsbrigde cathedral and
Big Ear Radio Telescope. I've also started working on a tourist attraction for pak.Brasil (
Corvovado's Christ the Redeemer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corcovado))
(http://www.postimage.org/gx1HSOl9.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=gx1HSOl9)
I've added all the windows and I've added the fachades on the sides.
(http://www.postimage.org/aV1pyfnr.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aV1pyfnr)
I've added a road to access to all buildings, and I've resized all buildings to pak64 scale.
Very impressive already :) Looking forward to the finished work.
Seconded. I feel like stealing some of these goodies for 128 and crossing the border before Interpol is able to react ::)
All you pngs are belong to us!! :D
The modeling stage has finished. I won't add more details to the fachade, so it's time for textures..but before painting it, here you have a preview of the cathedral in several scales and styles..
(http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/4325/60338725.th.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1qiIZr)
Good! ;D
Very nice and very gothic.
Very nice! Is that a comic stile church (the image right above)?
Would there also a edition for 192comic?
Yes, although I'm not an expert at comic style so I can send you the graphics sources in case you want to add the final details.
Yes that would be great!
Thank you, vilvoh
Ok, I will send you the files to the mail account that is at you forum profile.
This is a preview of how the pak96.comic version would look (
It's not the final version)
(http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/5344/30733916.th.png) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq1E7NLr)
Very nice. :)
Very, very, very nice!
Thank you, I've received the mail!
I think you will find the cathedral in the next pak192.comic version!
I'm glad you like it. I only try to spread my artistic creations between all paksets... ;D
WIP of the Big Ear Radiotelecope.
(http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/6994/bigear.th.png) (http://img177.imageshack.us/i/bigear.png/)
I think there's enough space to place another small antena at the back left side
More
WIP from Big Ear..this time, some in-game screenshots of the model with textures..looks really good, doesn't it? :)
(http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/7109/98332025.th.jpg) (http://img265.imageshack.us/i/98332025.jpg/)(http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/8254/simscr02.th.jpg) (http://img329.imageshack.us/i/simscr02.jpg/)
I think people are just stunned into silence :)
Realy nice ;).
Where be hosted downloading?
Silver, it's a work in progress so it's not finished yet. be patient my friend, it will be ready in a few days... ;)
Very nice indeed. I like it :)
Finally, I've finished the Big Ear. I added an extra antena, several trees and bushes, and the fence. Its chance is low, so probably it won't appear often, one or two by map as much. The intro date is 1951.
(http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/9499/84337141.th.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=PqGmUP9)
Good job ! ;D
I'm now working in a new tourist attraction for desert climate: archaeological remains of dinosaurs..
(http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/108/91756344.png) (http://www.postimage.org/)
what you see it's suppose to be fossil, but the scientifics are not completly sure, yet.
Great idea!
As an (ex) geologist, I like!
Very nice!!! At which time you paint a dino-park with real dinos? Of course animated. :D
The Jurasicc Park is not on my list...yet. ;D
It would be brilliant the piece jam where the cars and the T-Rex ;D :D :P
are you trying to tempt me? or are you challenging me? ::)...I dare to paint it... ;D
Vilvoh look at my Cathedral, need help to finish it, could you? I need the correct template for it!
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ElLG0VAkhwo/SlPdgGyha-I/AAAAAAAAAMU/k4tmDUQ2L38/s400/york_minster_3.png) (http://blog-squalo.blogspot.com/2009/07/stnews-york-minister-wip.html)
I use Google Translate ;D
I would say it's a 3x1. I'll check it this afternoon, but I'm not sure about the scale. It's the Notre-Damme cathedral, isn't it?
It is the Cathedral York Minister (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/York_Minster), Europe ;D
@Edson - is that from a blender model? If so would you mind if I could have it to use in pak128.Britain? (It would need re-scaling and probably best to re-render it using the pak128.Britain settings on my setup). It looks really good...
No, not used to
Blender, I am doing testing with
Google SketchUp, I am getting good results with it, look at a more expanded version of the
Cathedral:
I used Google Translate ;D
Oh OK. I think it is possible to export sketchup models into something blender can read though. If you are happy for your model to be used in pak128.Britain (with modifications) and be open-source, I'd be very interested in it once you have finished.
It's needs a 3x6x2 template. The scale is not bad at all. See the building in action..
(http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/4462/simscr01.th.jpg) (http://img41.imageshack.us/i/simscr01.jpg/) (http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/3594/york.th.jpg) (http://img190.imageshack.us/i/york.jpg/)
vilvoh, recommends you use the first image or the second ???
Even though it is most likely original size, I would suggest to shorten it a bit to fit it more into simutrans world. Ideally I would get 2x2 size, then it could replace the old kathedral.
Look at it after some modifications:
What do you need to change something?
vilvoh, I used the first image, she fell into a 4x2
I used Google Translate ! ;D
Second rotation would be great; otherwise this will forbid map rotation ... Should not too difficult with 3D modells though.
Have a look at this screenshot...
(http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/6516/yorkscalecomparison.jpg) (http://img365.imageshack.us/i/yorkscalecomparison.jpg/)
Now, comparing the whole, I think the small one fits better. a 2x2 size, as prissi suggested, would seem very small imho, but you can make the test. Btw, there're some white zones near the borders that should be removed for the final release.
I like the small version better, too. Very nice!
Traces of white bugs fixed, look the image:
(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/408/simscr10.th.png) (http://img6.imageshack.us/i/simscr10.png/)
Next step, add the colors of night and winter version!
I used Google Translate ! ;D
Well done!! It's going to be a great addon.. :)
Impressive !
DO not misunderstood me. The one on the previous page is very beatiful. However, a replacement for the current 2x2 cathedral is alsodesired. That was, why I suggested also a little shortening for a standard cathedral replacement.
You're right, I'm afraid I do misunderstood you. I'm sorry.. :P Anyway there must be a better candidate for replacing the pak64 old cathedral that fits better in a 2x2 template, like Sacred Family cathedral (http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=2b988cdda50dffc1de72962b5da7a751&prevstart=0) at Barcelona, Spain, for example
This is rather pak comic I suppose?
MAybe we can use the same, there is already a google sketchup file for it:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=b783e29d0c5c4113afd215d34bcb5695&prevstart=0
What is the deal on using these google sketchup files for simutrans pak releases? Do we need to get permissions or are they already open-source by being released up there for download?
That was already discussed
here (http://forum.simutrans.com/index.php?topic=1929.0) and the conclusion we got was..
I like the sound of that... :)
Archaeological sites WIP...
(http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4661/archeowi.th.jpg) (http://img20.imageshack.us/i/archeowi.jpg/)
I think I'll have to add something on the background because at some climates it's difficult to distinguish the fossil..
Great, vilvoh! :)
A new WIP of Archaeological sites, the release is very close.. ;D
(http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/4370/archywip.th.png) (http://img411.imageshack.us/i/archywip.png/)
I think the big one is far more realistic in terms of scale. Those mediaeval cathedrals are huge.
EDIT: it's the tower blocks that are too small, in fact.
The Archaeological sites attraction is finished and ready for downloading.
where can I download it vilvoh?
Click on the small print on top of your post and the bottom of this post: :-*
A new tourist attraction for inside the city called Tetsujin 28-go a.k.a. Gigantor
(http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/323/tetsuji.png) (http://img190.imageshack.us/i/tetsuji.png/)
He looks pretty cool vilvoh :)
[off-topic]
The original one will come at the end of this month.
http://www.kobe-tetsujin.com/
http://www.kobe-tetsujin.com/monument.html
Vilvoh has watched so much anime. >_>
I wanted one for my house, but my backyard isn't larger enough... :::)
Very good! :award:
Can you create a version for pak128?
I may try it, but I don't know if it will be detailed enough for pak128 standard. I'll upload the sources to graphics.simutrans.com in a few days.
Btw, Prissi told me that perhaps it will be included in the next pak64 release.. ;D
I'm interested, too, please let me know once the sources are there :)
As always, the graphic sources for pak64 scale are available at graphics.simutrans.com >> vilvoh's gallery (link (http://graphics.simutrans.com/thumbnails.php?album=104)). If you want I can send you the dat file.
Here it is. The Gigantor monument. It appears in cities with more than 3500 citizens.
(http://www.postimage.org/Ts2pwzOi.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/)
Finally, I think I've found a good set of textures for the cathedral. Now, I just need to add some trees and a fence. Here you have a preview, with a comparison between the old cathedral and the new one.
(http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/5677/cathedralprerelease1.th.png) (http://img18.imageshack.us/i/cathedralprerelease1.png/)
Hmm... is there any way to make it not place where it would have to modify the ground level? It looks a bit odd to have it appear with a wall, like the fossils were trucked in after the ground was leveled.
Sorry if someone has already mentioned this.
No.
Maybe you can think of it as a part already cleared away. Maybe they started the excavation because they were removing the natural hill and found some ancient walls.
Ladies and gentlemen, a WIP of the Taj Mahal...
(http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/2414/taj1.png) (http://img695.imageshack.us/i/taj1.png/)
oooOOOOooo. That's very very pretty!
The worlds most epic monument of love. I hope it will become really epic, even in Simutrans :)
In addition to Taj Mahal, I'm also working in two thematic buildings: an aztec/mayan pyramid and a shogun castle.
May I beg you to render the Japanese Castle for me in 128 size as well, once it's done? I could use it for a Japan related project of mine... por favor, PLEASE! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-angelic001.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
Sure, but you'll have to fix things and increase the detail level with a painting program, as the textures I'm going to use are not high quality.
Oh, I think I can live with that. Thanks.
Well, after all those promises here you have the release of Kingsbridge Cathedral!!
The Shogun castle is almost finished, have a look...
(http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/3526/shogunprerel.th.png) (http://img690.imageshack.us/i/shogunprerel.png/)
@Dirty Dirk. do you want the four views or it's enough with one? in that case, which one?
This is very pretty.
Good question... on the one hand four rotations are always nice, on the other hand it's often more or less a waste of memory, since not that much more to be seen...
If it's not too much work, I think four are good start - I can still leave some out when I get to work on it - if we do it the other way round I might have to bother you again... ;)
The Taj!! Nice!! I thinks is one of the coolest structures man has ever built. Even better now that it has be created for Simutrans!!!
Cheers Joker
Well, I don't know. I'll have to push F12 three times more, which is very annoying... :::)
That's why I'm so reluctant to ask... ;D
The aztec ruins are finished and The Taj Mahal only needs the textures.
(http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/5293/tourpr.th.png) (http://img340.imageshack.us/i/tourpr.png/)
@DirrrtyDirk: The pak128 version of the shogun castle is at graphics.simutrans.com (http://graphics.simutrans.com/displayimage.php?album=lastup&cat=0&pos=0). I only apply a sharpen filter to the image.
Thanks! I just downloaded it, but I've no idea yet when I'll be going to start working on it.
Shogun castle finished, with winter version.
EDIT: the aztec ruins, now called Teotihuacan ruins, are also available for downloading. It only appears in tropical climate.
(http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/1367/teoti.th.png) (http://img69.imageshack.us/i/teoti.png/)
where can i download The Gigantor monument?
where can i download it its so cool!
1) Do not double-post. This means if you have the last post in a thread, MODIFY that post, do not post another post.
2) It clearly states these are works in progress, there is no download.

I have an idea. Don't think of it as a request but just an idea yousomeone could pursue if desired.
Race tracks. There could be two kinds, a long, skinny one for a Drag Strip and a more square-like one for an oval track... or for a curvy GrandPrix/Formula1 type Race Track.
What do you think of the idea?
It's not a bad idea. In fact, I think the japanese guys already made it.....download link (http://japanese.simutrans.com/index.php?plugin=attach&refer=%A5%A2%A5%C9%A5%AA%A5%F3%2F%A4%BD%A4%CE%C2%BE&openfile=FT_building-set02_v2.zip)
(http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/1162/ftbuildingset02.th.png) (http://img707.imageshack.us/i/ftbuildingset02.png/)
Anyway, I can create a new ones. I'll include it in the list.
That is a driving school, where you train and are examined for your driving exams. It is part of pak.japan (which needs and updated badly) and the japanese wiki.
The Taj Mahal is almost finished. Take a look at the scale tests..
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/1981/simscr00t.th.png) (http://img99.imageshack.us/i/simscr00t.png/)
Really nice work.
It looks pretty huge I'd say. But i don't know, maybe that's the right scale? I've only seen photos of it - so it's really hard to tell.
edit: ok wikipedis says 58 m tall. So the scale is about right (or maybe even too small), compared to these 4-5 floor buildings next to it.
IIRC, the object size is about 5-6 floor, that means about 35-42 m. in real life. Anyway, I've finished it. Only has one rotation and without winter version neither special colors.
It looks great. :)
Looks fantastic. All your graphics are very good. :)
vilvoh, i really like your tourist attractions. Have you thought yet about an observation wheel like the London Eye, as a city attraction ?
Sure. I've realized there's one in pak128 and I already made some tests long time ago. I'll try to reboot that project. Thanks for the suggestion... ;)
A new city attraction for the whole family: the minigolf.
us (site down, do not visit) ]/image/show/GekPX2-sYA/minigolf.png](http://files.[ simutrans [dot] us (site down, do not visit) ]/thumbstore/28/GekPX2-sYA.minigolf_thumb.png) (http://files.[ simutrans [dot)
Around here, miniature golf greens usually have green, blue, or red carpet or artificial turf. The gray/silver looks a little too much like concrete, to me, but the overall image is very good! Is there a building there where they take your money and give you clubs/balls? Or is this a public recreation area? :)
It's just a work in progress. The final version will have a color for each step of the circuit, the carpet will be probably green or white and I will add several trees and people playing. As you have pointed out, it also needs a ticket office. It's going to be a city tourist attraction (curiosity building)
It looks great so far! :)
Minigolf finished. I'll try to create a set of recreational areas: campings, open air parties, lakes, natural pools, etc...
Thanks, vilvoh! :)
Looks cool, though the lanes (where the golf balls go) were what I was saying looked too much like concrete as gray (in reply #137)... The borders of the lanes would be fine as gray, as they often are concrete. Does minigolf where you live have lanes of concrete or gray carpet?
Love the ticket building and the little people playing golf.
As a minigolf player, I always found holes like the next-to-last one, where you have to run the ball along a rail, very hard, hehe. Great job!
Long time ago, I made a
skate park (http://archive.forum.simutrans.com/topic/03596.0/index.html#msg42615). This is a new version with more tubes and a grafitti hall of fame.
Well, they're usually white or light grey, green is only for top notch minigolf. Anyway, I needed a color to distinguish it from the gr****, and white was rather plain. The same happens with the border lanes. I think the different colors give it a funny point.
Okay, that explains it. Around here, almost all the minigolf places have green carpet or artificial turf, but it's interesting to learn about how things are in other places.
Yeah, I like the colors for each hole.
Thanks for all your hard work on these! The pak64 isn't getting much lovin', these days, so I appreciate your contributions all the more (since I have a laptop and don't want to tax it as much as pak128 does).
A set of old statues: Founding Fathers, Queen Ylisabeth, Gamesha and Ms. Liberte...link to image (http://graphics.simutrans.com/albums/userpics/10026/old_statue.png)
A red lighthouse, very similar to MHz's but not animated.
A planetarium to complement the MHz observatory.
