Make money February 20, 2009, 10:51:14 pm Hi everyone, i've a little problem i think this is right section to describe it.I'm playing a lot of Tranport simulation game in the past and i'm new to simutrans at first look it seems so friendly and simple to play, but i've only a question:Why i can make money??Let me explain, when i try to create a full service of industry transport system i see all of my transport unit earn money all in positive rate, but unfortunately every month i loose a fixed quote of my money this means that in a few years i'll go in bankrupt..Can u explain me where is my mistake? At start i try to buy lowest train locomotive and rails and try to make only commercial industry transport (Coal, Iron, Sand, Oil) that let me earn more than p****enger transport. Thanks Quote Selected
Re: Make money Reply #1 – February 20, 2009, 11:18:01 pm The fixed monthly amount that you pay out is infrastructure maintenance: for every piece of track, road, station, bridge, tunnel, power line, etc., that you build, there is a monthly maintenance cost. That is not amortised over the month, but paid in one lump sum at the end of the month. So, whilst your vehicles might be making a profit in the sense that their individual revenues are exceeding the vehicle maintenance costs, you are not making a profit overall, because the net profit from the vehicles is exceeding the total cost of your infrastructure. In short, to make money, you need to make your network more cost-effective to earn higher margins. That is part of the fun challenge of succeeding in Simutrans ;-) Quote Selected
Re: Make money Reply #2 – February 21, 2009, 07:23:52 am Ok is clear but if make a railnetwork beetwen 2 industry and i put on it a train to tranport for example Oil and i see with fast time the result, i see that train earn money but maintenance are the same or more expensive, u suggest to make 2 train to run in that line to solve the problem? maybe? Re: Make money Reply #3 – February 21, 2009, 11:41:30 am Enzo, what will actually make your network more profitable will depend on the details of your map. Certainly, a double track railway has a higher capacity than a single track railway (that is, higher than twice the capacity of a single track railway, because it is more efficient), but there is no point in adding more trains unless the industries are producing more goods than your current trains can transport. Re: Make money Reply #4 – February 21, 2009, 11:49:26 am I think enzo meant something else. Since vehicles make money and infrastructure only costs, maximalizing the vehicles/infrastructure ratio is desirable. Within the constraints of situation, of course... such as factory production you mentioned. Quote Selected
Re: Make money Reply #5 – February 22, 2009, 07:43:19 am I did more testing, and in effect if i put 2 train to transport (example oil) from olefield to rafinerie the money come up and i have a gain ratio positive. But if i make service from the rafinerie to the other client with the same logic the result is not the same.Sure i make a mistake but i've to teach myself on better transport strategy Thanks for support. So you get more money per transport if the distance is longer. Simutrans calculates the distance on the map regardless how long your way is. So long distances means higher profit, but the way should be as short and direct as possible (extra curves won't increase the profit - only the costs) Quote Selected
Re: Make money Reply #8 – February 22, 2009, 12:49:05 pm U right i'm using pak128 and simutrans 101, i make only necessary railroad and try to erase curves as possible cause the train mantain high speed, i'm using opentrainstop to reduce cost and 10ampflokomotive the most economic as price and maintenance!!But i'm sure if i continue my experiment i'll find the way! Thanks i've other doubts on signal (choose and one way) but more experiments i need!!!
