Citylists

I've gone through the help section on the wiki, but can't find out how to change to the citylist_en_gb from the other one with Rochester,Appingfield etc...

Please can someone give a step by step guide.  Using Linux, and i've got paks128,64 and 128.britain

Thanks

Just open that file with a text editor, and remove the names you don't want or remove all lines and place the names of the cities you want to play with. One per line. I recommend you to use gvim as text editor. Then save the file, run Simutrans and start a new game to ensure the city names have been loaded correctly.

The file is at simutrans directory, at pak/text folder and its name is citylist_en_gb.txt

and it must be renamed to citylist_en.txt before it will be used by the program ...

Edit: also, what's the name of the file with Rencross etc. in pak128, or/and HOW DO I CHANGE IT to the great britain ones with London etc.

The renaming is needed. The filename must be citylist_en.txt.

Right.

1. Rename the existing citylist_en.txt to, say, citylist_en_original.txt -- just so you have it around.
2. Rename your desired citylist to citylist_en.txt

Alternatively:
1. Create a new file called citylist_en_original.txt and copy the contents of your existing citylist there
2. Copy the contents of the citylist you want into citylist_en.txt

In other words:
- They're just text files. Simutrans will load whatever is in citylist_en.txt (for english)...
- So by whatever method you're comfortable with, you want the contents of citylist_en.txt to reflect the citynames you want to use.

So however you accomplish the task.... And this means you can edit the list however you like... :-)

That might be because it runs out of names in the city list, and has to add more from the invented list.

I've gotten this problem occasionally on Simu 64 on Linux too - I did start a Nightly game with Simu 128 and the names worked properly. But the 64 game still gave me the "heritage" names. I tend to prefer playing with the British names meself, hehe...

Perhaps you know already but ...

You can change the city names individually after their creation on the map.
I always do so after new map generation.
Kingston-upon-Hull, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and even Stoke-on-Kent may all be fine cities but take up too much space on the station labels.
My ideal city names are Bern, Roma, Metz, Paris, Ulm, Koln, Graz, York, etc.

I do this anyway; it's just time-consuming to do so, hehehe...especially since I like to make lots of city clusters.
