[Bug R2457] Slow Cursor Response during Ctrl-Drag when Game is Paused

Hi James,

When I try to build straighter roads using Ctrl-drag, UI response is much slower than mouse drag alone. Sometimes so slow that the road placement preview is not updated.

I have checked the latest nightly of ST STD, but such problem does not occur.

Hmm, this is an odd one, since the only thing that I have done to the cursor is to integrate the 3d cursor from the trunk. Can you verify that the Simutrans-Standard version that you tested has the 3d cursor?

I have checked and the nightly r2457 that I tried does have 3D cursor implemented.

One more thing, I noticed that the problem only occurs when you have paused the game. But this problem does not occur in the nightly even when the game is paused.

Knightly, did you try SDL version or GDI version of nightly.
I tried both, SDL version didn't have this problem but GDI version had.

So, I think this topic should be moved to simutrans bug report, I think.

Oh, thanks a lot for your info, z9999! :)

I just forgot that I usually choose the SDL version every time I download ST STD and its nightlies. But with ST EXP, only GDI version is provided.

v102.2 still had this problem, but there is no problem in r2818.
Someone fixed this problem or it had been solved unexpectedly ?

I think the new window and timing system fixed that. Aparently an intermediate version is needed, since the 102.2 has many problems with loading, AI, comparing schedules and messages at the beginning of a month.

prissi, i really wonder why every release intended to be "stable" is much more troublesome than the latest nightly before it. i would suggest, for next stable, the releasing of a RC, say, a week or two before the intended stable. Between the RC and the stable, a feature freeze and debug only period in order to release a virtually bug-free stable.
i'm sorry, i don't want to  minimize your awesome and tireless work, on the contrary. i'm only a bit worried about the German readers who will find a "dirty" release and maybe be a bit disappointed.

And the error with loading was reported only after it was release, although it was there before. The nightly before the release had even more errors, so your general comment is simply not true. And the AI bug was introduced by a bug fix for rivers. So a feature freeze was going one. You did notice how much changed just after the release? Lots of stuff was postponed.

And bug fixing can introduce new bugs. Finally stepping the save game version will mean, that there is no way back. The nightly forces us to do this only when everything is finally settled, like a week before the final version will be released.

So if I understand correctly, it is that releases reach to wider public that reports more bugs? If so, maybe releasing more often would reduce the overall # of bugs? (At the risk of releasing more broken)
