Simutrans in the dark?

Hey all,

I just downloaded simutrans and started playing it...i really like it!
Everything worked fine on my laptop with windows.
Accidently i pressed the questionmark that's next to the 0 (i use a spanish keyboard).
The screen then became darker...i pressed again and it became night (see picture)
Unfortunately i haven't been able to figure out how to reverse this. I cannot adjust the brightness with - or with the mouse in the screen options menu. I reinstalled the game, but still..completely dark.

I hope someone can enlighten me :)

Dave

Let there be more light  :D .

In the toolbar you will find the save and load button (with a floppy disk on it). Choose display settings there. Now you get a dialog.

You will find "brightness" there, which you can edit or change. Just above it there is "day and night change". There are two reasons why you might be groping in the dark  ;) . One is that day and night change is on (pressed in). If you like that then keep it on, but half the time you will be in the dark. Other reason might be that you've changed the brightness. Mine is on 0, which means maximum brightness I guess.

Good luck!

Screen much looks like Simutrans at night (with the lights on), but too dark overall. Try Combuji's suggestions, those should help :)

Press ? and the help browser comes up.
Fourth item: Keyboard Help

In my pak128.Britain game it says:
+ - Brightness: +
- - Brightness: -

Looks like the same deal with pak64.

Dave,

Perhaps this is a bug?  Anyway, if the key right of the 0 makes the screen darker, try shift+key 2 right of the 0 key to make it lighter.  That's how it works on the US keyboard, anyway.

Dear all,

thank you for your quick remarks!
Unfortunately...i'm still in the dark.
I can't adjust the brightness...its set on 0 (see picture) and the day/night is switched off.
I pressed all the keys with shift and without...but still no luck...
Is this a bug?

The thing is...after reinstalling it's still dark :( even after completely removing the game.
I'm gonna try with another paks-set.
Wish me luck

Dave

You might try to find a file somewhere called settings.xml.  On Linux it's be in ~/simutrans/settings.xml, but if you're on Windows . . . ask the sniffing dog?  Anyway, if that file is hanging around, delete it, and see if that helps?

I guess that, according to the level of darkness shown on your screenshot, (although it says "0") it's actually set to "10" - the "1" just isn't shown. This doesn't happen anymore in newer versions - they just start to the cycle again at true "0", but with 102.0 I could get it as dark your screenshot and it actually showed "0". However, I could still brighten the picture again, by clicking on the small arrow to the left of the "0" - Until it showed "0" again (after going through 9,8...2,1). Does this really not work for you?

(EDIT: <- In 102.0 the number keeps showing "0" all the way - but the screen still brightens/darkens. When clicking on the arrows (or hitting the "+" or "-" keys...)

Also, which version of Simutrans do you actually use?
