PAK128 (Underground)

Is it possible to slice the underground in PAK128. If not how are under ocean tunnels built. It used to be easy when all one did was build a slope on one shore and an opposing slope on the opposite shore then use the tunnel tool just like building a tunnel through a hill.

Hi Colin!

Yes, it is possible - it's actually part of the game engine and not of the pakset. All the pakset can do is make it easier and more comfortable to use (i.e. by providing icons and/or keyboard shortcuts - both are not yet part of pak128, I'm afraid. And currently there can't much be done about that, since the SVN Server does not respond and wernieman hasn't been seen for quite some time...)

But you can still do it via the game options / display settings menu... and pray that the SVN and nightly systems will be back up soon, sorry.

Or I could help you to modify your menuconf.tab to get some keyboard shortcuts for these functions (icons are not really possible that way, sorry), if you prefer that...

I noticed that nothing had happened on the SVN Server since RC r2864 I just thought everyone had gone away for Christmas.

Yes I would be grateful if you could give me the lines to add to the menuconf.tab. I've already had to modify it once this morning for PAK64 to get the river tools. So changing PAK128 wont faze me.

Ok, I ****ume you're using pak128 nightly r757 - if you have a different version of pak128, the entries may have to be different - so please tell me if that's the case.

Anyway, for r757:

below line 305 (which should read: toolbar[0][29]=simple_tool[19],,-,-   )

insert the following lines:

toolbar[0][30]=simple_tool[19],,*,4
# underground slice mode modifications
toolbar[0][31]=simple_tool[15],,^U,K
toolbar[0][32]=simple_tool[15],,END,I
toolbar[0][33]=simple_tool[15],,HOME,D

With these settings, you should be able to enter the slice mode by pressing CTRL-U; and with your HOME and END keys you can change level.

Ok Dirk, Thanks for that. All entered I'll go and try it out.

Edit:

Ok a problem. I can change the slice using the Display Menu but nothing actually happen on the game screen. Also, I believe that when building cross ocean tunnels one is supposed to be able to use the dig tools, but only the slope tools are available in 'Underground mode.

Maybe, the height of the slice was too high? try to lower it could help.

First build tunnel mouth (ctrl+click tunnel), then go to slice mode ctrl+U. Then you see the beginning of the tunnel. You can use the lower-slope tool on the end of the tunnel track .. and you get a slope down in tunnel (invisible now), but after changing slice mode (END key) you can see the slope on the level below. etc.

Solved, I re-uploaded the files to imageshack.us
The images were hosted on files.[ simutrans [dot] us (site down, do not visit) ], but recently, the site doesn't allow direct links to images, putting "img" bbcode around the download link for pictures no longer works (now requires Captcha).

You may, or may not know of my recent comment re 'Underground Ocean Tunnels'? I said that the new way was a "pain in the #$#@". I now wish to retract that statement.

 Having persevered (STRUGGLED!!) for many hours, I've actually mastered the method. But! what finally convinced me was, I was running a railway track to a city and wanted to run it alongside the Townhall, unfortunately it meant I would have to destroy the existing Townhall, which of course meant destroying the city. So, I thought, I wonder if the 'Under Ocean' tools would work under the city. (This city was at sea level, so tunnels could not be used) to my utter joy I found that it worked perfectly.

I was using PAK64.234

Well, the feature actually is usable without doing anything to menuconf.tab. Albeight it is a little cumbersome to use. Menuconf.tab only adds keyboard shortcuts - else you have to open the options/display menu and can choose sliced view and select the underground level to be shown there.

It is in pak64, just use the underground button. YOu can change the slice by + and - on numpad.

Yes You're right, silly me was getting mixed up between the 'River Tools' and the 'Under Ocean' tools.

Oh didn't see the button either (but since I don't play the set I forgive myself this little oversight ;)) That button is really nice, especially with all the information it shows... I think I'll add that to pak128 as well (as long as VS doesn't object), although I prefer different keys.
