Question about profits.. June 09, 2010, 07:51:41 am I've recently started playing Simutrans and enjoy it very much. I've figured a few things out thanks to the wiki, however, I am having an issue regarding profits. In the last several games i've played, I've not been able to make any profit/progress.I set up a transport route between an oil rig and a refinery, which I connected to a gas station. No matter how many additional oil rigs I sent trucks to, they all seem to "squeek by" barely making enoughto maintain their upkeep. In addition, every month the game freezes for a second and deducts large amounts of money from my funds.Any help would be appreciated.Uploaded with ImageShack.usClick the magnifying gl**** after clicking the image for a clear view of the text ect. Re: Question about profits.. Reply #1 – June 09, 2010, 08:20:17 am The monthly cost is the maintenance of your infrastructure (any roads, tracks, stations etc that you built) and are often very high. Try to make sure you only provide as much capacity as you need to start with, and make sure all your vehicles are running full as much of the time as possible. Quote Selected
Re: Question about profits.. Reply #2 – June 09, 2010, 12:13:12 pm For freight, always use full load. Waiting vehicles cost nothing.Second, the bridge must cost a lot; you could have put the road more towards the edge of map and byp**** the mini-river completely. And oil has zero speed bonus, so you don't have to use a fast road... there are many ways to cut maintenance. Quote Selected
Re: Question about profits.. Reply #3 – June 24, 2010, 03:53:38 am Hello, I'm pretty late but I observe that the rafinery and the gas stop are pretty much in a 22.5° angle. This is the worst scenario ever since the price of the goods is calculated with distance but it is impossible to send the truck in a straight line. Just for that, this line is pretty much harder to make profitable. I feel like the maintenance cost is indeed pretty high. I see an asphalt road going outside the screen. Where does it go ? Re: Question about profits.. Reply #5 – June 27, 2010, 09:06:37 pm I can see two extensions near the gas station's station, you don't need them if you use a loading bay. I also see that the oil rig station and the raffinery station are overloaded, use more trucks so your road (which you should make less fast as said above) will be more profitable. You can be in debt starting a game to create a larger network since there's not much money to start :/ (you can also modify simuconf.tab in your pak128 folder to have more money ).Also, trains are much better than trucks to transport goods, try with a small and slow train network that you can enlarge to nearby industries.
